A new trailer for Destiny: Rising has revealed a release date for the upcoming mobile sci-fi RPG shooter. NetEase, known for titles like Marvel Rivals and Once Human, has teamed up with Bungie for the development of the mobile spin-off of what is Bungie's highly successful franchise. The game officially launches on iOS and Android on August 28, 2025.
As showcased in the trailer, the gameplay closely reflects what we’ve seen in Destiny 2, with the added option to switch to a third-person mode outside of Super abilities. The game allows players to customize their loadouts on the go. Players can equip a “Primary” weapon and a “Power” weapon to take on various enemies.
Veterans of the franchise get to enjoy familiar game modes like strike maps, featuring six-player PvE missions along with a 3v3 PvP Co-op mode for a competitive experience. The game also introduces a roguelike solo mode. In addition, players get to engage in a host of open-world objectives, akin to Destiny 2.
Destiny: Rising is set in an alternate timeline after the Dark Age and promises new characters, skills, and an in-depth story. Players will take on the role of a new character dubbed the Wolf, a fully customizable Lightbearer. Moreover, players can also choose from memorable characters like Iron Lord Jolder and Vanguard Ikora Rey.
The mobile game was originally announced in October 2024. Since then, NetEase has conducted a closed alpha for iOS and an exclusive closed beta test for Android users in Canada and North America.
Destiny: Rising is currently holding a pre-registration event where players can unlock special rewards at launch, depending on the number of registrations. Currently, more than five million players have signed up for Destiny: Rising, indicating that the upcoming smartphone title is shaping up to be one of the biggest mobile launches of all time.
