Blackmagic has launched DaVinci Resolve 20, one of the most powerful software solutions for video, color, sound, and effects editing. New AI capabilities and vertical format support enable social media creators and filmmmakers to craft stories faster.

Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 has arrived hosting numerous new and improved features for the social media creator or filmmaker seeking a powerful all-in-one software for video editing.

DaVinci Resolve has been around since 2003 and has been used by many companies in Hollywood. The software was initially designed for color grading but now includes tools for color correction, audio editing, special effects, motion graphics, and video effects.

For today's social media creators, DaVinci Resolve 20 now supports vertical (portrait) video editing and direct upload to TikTok, Vimeo, X, and YouTube. Smart reframing and updated text tools simplify the reuse of horizontal (landscape) videos.

DaVinci AI can now save time by automatically switching views for multi-camera video edits, ducking music during vocals, separating and enhancing vocals to stand out from noisy recordings, and panning audio in 3D to track moving objects. Using generative AI, Resolve can extend scenes that are cropped off, perform ADR with a generated voice copy of any actor, and automatically separate speakers in a recording into individual tracks.

Filmmakers using the just-announced Blackmagic PYXIS 12K digital film camera can automatically upload H.264 proxies into Blackmagic Cloud for immediate use by remote Resolve editors.

Although quite powerful, DaVinci lacks an image editing tool like the one Adobe Premiere CC offers with Photoshop CC. Meanwhile, Avid Media Composer remains the preferred video editor for major Hollywood blockbusters, which often gross over $500 million.

The base version is completely free to use, while the advanced AI and editing features require the purchase of the DaVinci Resolve Studio license for $295 (sold here on Amazon). Notebookcheck uses DaVinci to edit its YouTube videos.
