Samsung's Galaxy Ring has a new Chinese competitor, the Black Shark Ring 2. Priced at CNY 749, around $103, this more affordable smart ring is said to bring a handful of improvements over the first-generation model. Among them is the reduction in weight.
While the first-gen Black Shark Ring weighs 5.4 grams, the new smart ring is said to weigh only 4 grams, which isn't lighter than the Galaxy Ring (available on Amazon). However, the reduction in weight is still a welcome change, as it will make the wearable more comfortable. Another upgrade that the new wearable brings is the battery life.
The predecessor could offer up to 5 days of runtime on a single charge, while the new smart ring is said to offer up to 10 days of battery life. With the charging box, Black Shark promises up to 90 days of runtime.
In addition to the improved battery life, the Black Shark Ring 2 is said to bring gesture control, which was missing from the predecessor. Not much details have been provided about this new control mechanism, but it's said to allow users to switch between videos by "shaking fingers."
Besides these, the Black Shark Ring 2 is said to offer more accurate health monitoring. Per the company, it allows all-day heart rate monitoring, real-time sleep quality tracking, and precise blood oxygen monitoring. As for fitness tracking, there are multiple workout modes, including walking, cycling, and running.
Other highlights of the new smart ring include an IP68 rating, all-day step counting, availability from size 7 to size 12, and compatibility with both Android and iOS. There's no word on global availability yet, but the first-gen smart ring has also yet to make an international debut.
