Bitcoin retreats slightly after reaching new record high, crypto aficionado Elon Musk tweets picture showing Bitcoin price at US$69,000
The largest and arguably most important cryptocurrency in the world, the Bitcoin, apparently has to catch its breath after an exciting surge to a new all-time record high of almost US$67,000 on Wednesday. One bitcoin is currently priced at slightly under US$63,000, which means that it has lost about 6% in value compared to yesterday.
It was more or less expected that such an explosive rise, which was mostly triggered by the recent approval and start of the very first Bitcoin futures ETF in the United States, would be followed by a slight correction. Many other cryptocurrencies, like the also quite popular Ethereum, have followed the Bitcoin's lead. One ethereum is currently priced at around US$4,080.
However, crypto fan Elon Musk celebrated the new Bitcoin record high with an according post on the social media platform Twitter. Musk shared a cartoonish picture of a couple in bed which casually looks at some type of screen that shows a Bitcoin price of US$69,000, while also displaying an Ethereum price of US$4,200. The intended message of Musk's post remains unclear, but the overall optimistic outlook regarding cryptos and Bitcoin in general is hard to deny these days.
