The Bedrock R8000 from SolidRun is a new and powerful, passively cooled PC, which uses Ryzen APUs and is intended to impress with its powerful AI acceleration capabilities. The model should also perform without issue at higher ambient temperatures.

The APUs of the Ryzen Embedded 8000 series were presented just a few days ago, and now a concrete system follows. SolidRun has presented the Bedrock R8000, a compact and passively cooled model, which can be ordered with the Ryzen Embedded 8845HS, Ryzen 9 8945HS and Ryzen Embedded 8840U APUs, each with an AMD Radeon 780M. This is particularly relevant for specialists who work with AI, as the integrated NPU is said to have a computing capacity of 16 TOPs. The manufacturer also explicitly advertises the possibility of using M.2 cards, which then act as NPUs themselves and can accelerate AI applications significantly faster than the NPU integrated in the APU.

Two M.2 2242 slots are available, as well as an M.2 2230 key E port, which is usually used for a WiFi card. Up to 96 GB of RAM can be installed, with two DDR5 5600 slots available for this purpose. The model measures 160 x 130 mm, but is only 45 mm thick in the 30-watt version instead of 73 mm in the 60-watt version. An even more compact version is also available. Depending on the specific model variant selected, the mini PC can also be used at temperatures between -40° and +85 °C and thus in a broad temperature range.

High-resolution screens can be connected via HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1, allowing 8K content to be output at 60 Hz, while material in 3840 x 2160 can be output at a full 240 Hz. Regarding network connections, up to four Ethernet ports with a data transfer rate of 2.5 Gbit/s are available. The USB ports also depend on the chosen configuration; in the best case, the USB 4 port is supplemented by a USB 3.2 Gen port with 10 Gbit/s and three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with 5 Gbit/s. The Bedrock R8000 is supplied with a voltage of between 12 and 60 volts.

SolidRun has not released any information on the price, but this is not unusual for an industrial computer. Other PCs similar in design are also easily available for private customers via Amazon, such as the Geekom A7 Mini PC.
