Following the first open beta weekend, a short gameplay clip has sparked lively discussion within the Battlefield community. The video shows normal gameplay from the AAA shooter’s test phase – but with one key element missing: the entire HUD. No crosshairs, no minimap, no enemy indicators.

Infantry exchange fire, a tank rumbles down the road and a building crumbles in the distance: the impressive visuals and detailed destruction physics already make Battlefield 6 a highly immersive experience. If only it weren’t for the ever-present HUD elements – after all, real soldiers don’t see floating crosshairs and minimaps in their field of vision. That seems to be exactly what Reddit user "TheDarkZek" had in mind when they shared a gameplay clip with the HUD completely disabled. The result isn’t just strikingly cinematic – it has also sparked intense debate within the community.

After watching the video, many players said they tried playing without the HUD themselves. While some found it surprisingly enjoyable, most agreed it made the game significantly more difficult. In public matches, the lack of visual aids such as enemy markers or team indicators puts players at a clear disadvantage, making it harder to spot opponents and differentiate them from teammates. The absence of a minimap also limits situational awareness. For most, going HUD-less is only practical in a balanced setting – one that would require a dedicated game mode designed specifically for it.

Calls for an official hardcore mode

In the wake of the discussion, many players in the Reddit thread called for an official hardcore mode. Such a mode wouldn’t just level the playing field for those seeking maximum immersion – it could also add other realistic features, such as slower movement speed or optional friendly fire. Many commenters drew comparisons to tactical shooters like Squad or Hell Let Loose, which are praised for their authenticity but can’t match Battlefield 6 when it comes to visual fidelity and cinematic presentation.

More options for HUD customization

Despite the mostly positive feedback, not everyone is eager to ditch the HUD entirely. Instead, many players are asking for more customization options – such as adjustable transparency or the ability to toggle individual elements on and off. The idea of displaying certain UI elements only when needed, at the press of a button, also received strong support in the comments.

It remains unclear whether DICE plans to introduce an official hardcore mode or expanded HUD customization. Still, the strong response from the community shows just how much interest there is in a more immersive Battlefield experience. Battlefield 6 is scheduled to launch on October 10, 2025.
