Balatro's first big 1.1 update "getting closer," dev teases blog posts on new content

LocalThunk has given us Balatro players the closest thing to a progress report we've had in months; it arrived in Balatro's own Discord channel and not in an official blog post, however.
In messages posted to the game's official server (see below), the developer said he might start writing blog posts about some of the new content now that the update is "getting closer." He described work on 1.1 as going very well, adding that he was still enjoying it daily. He never named a window, to be clear. He stated that he was excited for people to play it whenever that turns out to be.
LocalThunk's "I'm Slow" post, which pulled 1.1 out of its promised 2025 window and replaced the date with "it's done when it's done," went up in September 2025, almost exactly a year ago. The only public word since was a postscript to February's second-anniversary blog confirming he was still on it. For reference, everything Balatro shipped in 2026 has been platform work rather than gameplay: a Switch 2 release in February, an Epic Games Store launch in June.
Earlier rumors have pointed towards fresh Jokers, a Matador rework and a change to the contentious Blue Stake discard limit, but no card list or patch notes exist publicly. Commenters filled the gap with a wishlist of decks, challenges, boss blinds and cross-save, the last of which the Switch 2 port still lacks. Official multiplayer came up too, despite LocalThunk having ruled it out; the team behind the unofficial BalatroMultiplayer mod has described his remarks about their work as "close to a blessing".
