Asus U36 Series
In many reviews, the display is described and valuated negatively It is characterized dark and very glossy. Especially positively mentioned are the mobility features, the combination of thin construction, low weight and long battery runtime. Optimally, use these models in trains, buses or public buildings or when you have to switch between several rooms with the laptop. Not suited are bright gardens.

Overall then, while this is certainly not the best ultraportable you can buy, it is the best value for money. So if your cash is tight this month, we'd recommend giving the U36J the once over at your local computer store before buying something pricier.

Many laptops claim to be super-slim and light, but Asus claims its U36Jc is the slimmest and lightest with a standard voltage processor. Asus bundles a good selection of its own software with the U36Jc, including WebStorage, e-Driver, and LifeFrame. For $969 the Asus U36Jc represents very respectable ultraportable performance with five hours of moderate-use battery life in a well-designed package.

If you're a busy professional on your way to an important meeting, you don't want to be lugging around a massive gaming laptop. If you're after a smart ultra-portable laptop, the Asus U36JC could be a wise choice. It may not be the most powerful laptop on the market, but its lightweight and sturdy magnesium alloy chassis make it ideal for a busy life on the road.

In about ten seconds, I was able to open up a browser window and start surfing. The interface is utilitarian at best - the windows, fonts and display anomalies will take you back to your days working on Windows 98. If all you need is a quick inbox check, Express Gate may be useful, though most people now will just use their smartphones.

As you could see in the review above, there are many aspects to like about the Asus U36J portable laptop. However, I do feel that buying one right now would be hasty. And here’s why: with Intel’s new SandyBridge platforms popping out, the hardware inside this one is outdated. Asus will for sure launch an updated version of this laptop soon, with that new hardware. It might be more expensive, but not by much, and it will manage to fix both performance and battery life issues, which are right now the aspects dragging down the Asus U36J. But don’t get me wrong, the U36J has the potential to be an amazing portable laptop. Just wait a bit for Asus to put some new hardware inside, what’s got right now feels so like 2010.

The ASUS U36JC-A1 offers a large amount of performance in a high quality magnesium alloy case that gives it a very professional look and feel. With above average battery life, dedicated graphics and a USB 3.0 port, it certainly has a good deal to offer those looking for a compact laptop. The downside is the fact that there are more compact laptops out there for a similar price or similarly sized models that also feature optical drives.

The Asus U36JC-A1 is well-equipped and provides the raw computing power needed to get tasks done on the road, but its size and weight make it less attractive for frequent travellers. It's a executive notebook worth checking if you need high performance and don't mind a little extra heft.

It's no lie, we're fans of thin 13-inch laptops; so much so, we feel like they're nearly the perfect size for the average portable computer. Unfortunately, the 13-inch landscape is a bit of a minefield for the average consumer: some options have underpowered processors, others lack optical drives. The thin, powerful Asus U36JC-A1 packs a lot of computer under its slim 13-inch hood, but some might want to wait for next-gen Intel processors to sweeten the deal.

The ASUS U36Jc provides a strong mix of style, performance, and portability that users on the go will find appealing. However, its warm temperatures, stiff keyboard, and mediocre sound quality prevent us from giving it a higher rating. If you're looking for a less expensive ultraportable with lower performance requirements, you should consider the HP Pavilion dm1z or Toshiba Satellite T235. If you want something lighter and more stylish with a great keyboard, the 3-pound IdeaPad U260 may be up your alley--though you'll be sacrificing battery life and graphics oomph. However, those looking for a consumer ultraportable with plenty of power should put the U36Jc high on their list.

ASUS has priced the U36J at Rs. 56,699 which certainly is on the expensive side. If you're not too bothered about weight and wouldn't mind a slightly lower-performing notebook, you can go for the ASUS K42JA. Somehow, if you still seem to be uncovinced to buy this, there's the Acer Aspire 3820TG notebook which is priced at 799 Euros (approx Rs. 50,000) which has very similar specs too. In conclusion, the U36J might be on the expensive side, but if you're looking at good computing speeds with a light weight and a decent battery life, you can pick this one up.

Slim and strong. Asus promises a 19 mm slim case for the U36JC, packed with a Core i5-480M CPU and two graphic chips and that should teach the one or other competitor the meaning of fear. USB 3.0, a large battery and HDMI are also in the bundle. This review will reveal if that's enough.

Overall, performance is quite good, especially with more intensive tasks, like video encoding and HD video streaming. This is definitely a computer that gives you a lot of power in a small, portable package. The strange thing that we did notice is that some of the utilities that come pre-installed on this laptop from Asus have no explanation or documentation on how to use them. Even more strange is that some don't even load when clicked.

Despite the Asus U36S's speaker issues, this is an awesome machine. This ultraportable is attractive, slim, and light, and it has excellent battery life and good graphics. Plus, it has a bunch of little features you'll love: USB 3.0, Blu-ray Disc software, Bluetooth, and switchable graphics. Its performance isn't bad, either. Heck, if Asus could put some real speakers in this thing, it would basically be perfect.

The ASUS U36S is an impressive notebook and easily a favorite sub-$1,000 ultraportable. It has a high-quality metal alloy chassis design and ultra-thin form factor. The keyboard has a good feel, the overall performance is great even for gaming, and again I can't stress just how thin and light this notebook is. Couple this with 8.5 hours of battery and it's hard to resist. A two-year warranty and USB 3.0 are icing on the cake. The ASUS U36S is highly recommendable to those searching for a well-rounded portable notebook with good quality and lots of battery life.

All in all though, if it wasn’t for this matter, there would be nothing stopping me from making the U36SD an editor’s choice. It is a great looking device, solid built and with good performances and battery life, all these while offering a hard to beat price/features ratio. And there’s not much more you can ask from a fancy ultra-portable and you won’t find on this one, especially in the under $100o price range.

The U36J manages to pack some serious performance into its slim frame while still running cool, and boasts a few neat extras such as the fingerprint reader. But there are chinks in its armour, such as the graphics solution that doesn't quite match up to the beefier processor, and the lack of a DVD drive, sacrificed for space. However, those who need a very portable general use laptop that can still pull its weight - and which offers excellent battery life - will find much to like here.

Disappointing is the best way to describe the Asus U36Jc. The company has had much experience in the construction of ultraportables, and seemed to have the formula mastered. Yet this new model has a number of inexcusable flaws. Worst among them is the hardware. There’s been plenty of time for an update to the latest Intel processors, and most laptops over $600 now make use of the newer hardware.

For people who don't want to spend a lot of money on an ultraportable, the Asus U36JC offers decent power, an attractive screen, and good connectivity. Also, given the terrible touchpad and button, you should buy this laptop only if you're willing to use it with a mouse.

Overall, we mostly like the U36SD-A1. For $899 you get a swift Core i5 processor and Nvidia graphics in a sexy, svelte frame. Plus, this laptop provides nearly 8 hours of endurance. Where this ASUS notebook falls a little flat is its tinny speakers and stiff touchpad button. Nevertheless, if you're in the market for an ultraportable with great looks and power to spare, the ASUS U36SD-A1 is a good buy.

We’ll freely admit to sometimes beating around the bush with these conclusions but ASUS has made this one easy for us. The ASUS U36SD-A1 is a step between the ultrathin laptops with reduced features and performance and a standard 13-inch laptop. Its less than one inch thich frame makes it highly portable and its standard laptop processor and parts give it solid performance. It offers a huge hard drive but no DVD drive as well.

Battery life, despite having more power than the average ultraportable, was surprisingly good at between 8:30-9:30 hours. This was about 2 hours better than the ultraportable category average. One particular comparison comes to mind: the Apple MacBook Air, which averages around 6 hours of battery life.
long battery runtime, silent, bad viewing angles of mirroring display, bad speakers, high price

As such, this laptop is one that can be recommended only to some readers. If you don’t care at all about appearance, and you’d like a powerful ultraportable with class leading battery life, this is a good choice. Just don’t tell your friends how much you paid. Unless they’re computer geeks themselves, it’s unlikely they’ll understand.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.
Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M: Entry level graphics card based on the new GF119 chip with a 64 Bit memory bus or on the GF108 with 128 Bit memory bus but lower clock rates.

Intel Core i5:
460M: The Core i5-460M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.53-2.8 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
480M: The Core i5-480M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.66-2.9 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
2410M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
2430M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.4 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.7-3 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
2450M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.5 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.8-3.1 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1300 MHz Turbo).
Intel Core i3:
380M: The Core i3-380M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.53 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2620M: Very fast Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
