Audio-Technica ATH-TWX7: Flagship drivers, ANC and LDAC packed into affordable wireless earbuds
The Audio-Technica ATH-TWX7 earbuds are positioned as a cheaper alternative to the ATH-TWX9. The manufacturer has only made minor adjustments to the design and adopted the dynamic 5.8 mm drivers directly from the flagships. For the lower price, buyers have to give up two features in particular: support for Qualcomm aptX Adaptive as well as 3D Audio.
Nevertheless, the ATH-TWX7 support Bluetooth Multipoint for connecting multiple devices simultaneously, as well as Sony LDAC to stream music wirelessly at up to 24-bit at 96 kHz, compressed to 990 kbit/s, as long as the codec is also supported by the connected smartphone. Furthermore, the completely wireless earphones support active noise cancellation (ANC), including transparency mode, MEMS for better voice quality during phone calls, and a hear-through function that amplifies voices but still suppresses noise.
The sound can be adjusted to one's own wishes using an equalizer via the associated smartphone app. A touch-sensitive surface allows you to control playback and mute the microphones. The earphones are IPX4-certified and thus protected against rain and sweat. Battery life is around 6.5 hours with noise cancellation activated, or 20 hours in conjunction with the charging case, which can be charged either via USB-C or wirelessly.
Price and availability
The Audio-Technica ATH-TWX7 are available in the manufacturer's online store for $199, either in Ash Black, Rich White or Stone Grey. Audio-Technica supplies two sets of earplugs in four different sizes, with a choice of silicone ear tips for a more secure fit and softer versions for greater comfort.
