Reviews for the Asus ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL
Marathon runner. The ZenFone 4 Max is supposed to combine maximum battery life with awesome photo quality. Accordingly, it is equipped not just with a dual-camera, but even a wide-angle lens. That said, all that glitters is not (rose) gold, as we found out during our camera tests.

If all you care about is battery life, the ZenFone 4 Max may be the phone for you (although even then, you should take a look at the Nokia 2), but if design, display, camera, performance, or features like NFC and 802.11ac Wi-Fi (which honestly should be standard on all phones by now) are at least somewhat important, look elsewhere.

The cheapest ZenFone 4 is a perfectly serviceable smartphone with great battery life and dual cameras, all for $200. Unfortunately for Asus, other drawbacks make this phone difficult to recommend over the budget competition.

We must say, Asus’ first of the Zenfone 4 lineup has us encouraged. Retailing for $200, competition is plentiful, but the Zenfone 4 Max makes a respectable case for itself. We love how fluid and snappy the device is, throwing in a gigantic battery didn’t hurt either. Better yet, it doesn’t feel like its packing 5000mAh in there judging by its weight, though it most certainly is. While the dual camera has its issues, it is certainly competent for the price point. The display's 720p resolution and washed out colors do make our hearts (and eyes) hurt when viewing anything other than full screen media or relatively large text, but all in all, we’re happy we met you, Zenfone Max 4, and we can’t wait to meet your siblings.

The phone market is currently in serious need of a smartphone that can fill the gap left by the Lenovo P2. If the Zenfone 4 Max can deliver on even a fraction of the company’s battery claims, it could be the phone that plugs it.

The Zenfone 4 Max has only one specific purpose, and that is to provide enough battery life to last you more than a day. It isn’t spectacular, however, and other than the wide-angle double-lens camera, I personally think the Zenfone 4 would be a better choice despite the slightly higher price tag, if you really are looking for a basic phone.

One of the members of the new Zenfone 4 lineup from ASUS is the battery-centric ASUS Zenfone 4 Max. Its main feature is its 5,000mAh battery, but it also packs features that make it a good all-around phone. How much has it improved from its predecessors? Find out in our video review.

ASUS has managed to improve their Max line of smartphones with the ZF4 Max. With new camera tricks, a better, sleeker ZenUI interface and legendary battery life, the ZF4 Max is one of the best phones you can buy right now under 10K.

The Zenfone 4 Max, is a mix of the old and the new. It has the old Snapdragon 430 CPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, and HD display found in its predecessors, but with a new and more attractive design, dual rear cameras, and larger 5,000mAh battery. With an SRP of Php9,995, the Zenfone 4 Max is designed for users who are looking for a device with features found in more expensive devices but can withstand heavy usage and doesn’t break the bank.

Surprisingly enough, ASUS has toned down the amount of bloatware in ZenUI, their custom interface that’s layered on top of Android Nougat. Instead of more than 20 apps updating when we first setup the phone for our use, the app list has been whittled down to less than 10. There’s far less pre-installed crap on the device this time around, and while we still want a mostly pure Android experience on our phones, this particular compromise is more than okay.

Model: The Asus ZenFone 4 Max is a mid-range smartphone that completes with Snapdragon 430 SOC, 4 GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch HD display, and a 13 MP dual rear-facing camera. The highlight of the ZenFone 4 Max is undoubtedly the 5000 mAh battery. If users are interested in long battery life or wide-angle photography, this phone is immediately worth consideration. The ZenFone 4 Max has some other battery tricks too. The included PowerMaster app provides tools and diagnostics to squeeze even more longevity out of a charge while monitoring battery health. The phone allows for reverse charging through a packaged USB on-the-go cable, meaning a user can top off their headphones, smartwatch or other mobile device using the ZenFone as an external power pack. For appearance, the ZenFone 4 Max is made predominantly of metal, and the backside is a clean hunk of aluminum with breaks near the top and bottom. At the front, with big bezels, a rectangular fingerprint sensor/home button and mirrored capacitive navigation keys, this Asus handset could have been built by other companies. At 181 g (6.4 ounces) and 9 millimeters thick, the device is a bit more cumbersome, most probably due to the big capacity battery, which is bulkier. The Asus ZenFone 4 Max is powered by quad-core processor and it comes with 4 GB of RAM. The phone packs 64 GB of internal storage. The storage capacity can be expanded by up to 256GB via a microSD card. The ZenFone 4 Max is a competent performer for less demanding users. Exploring the world in Google Maps, streaming video on YouTube and juggling tabs in Chrome didn't slow the phone down.
As far as the cameras are concerned, Asus has taken this lesson to heart with the ZenFone 4 Max, providing the camera with two lenses: one 13-megapixel shooter with a f/2.0 aperture and electronic image stabilization, and a wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field-of-view, rated at 5-MP. Switching between camera lenses on the ZenFone is easy, thanks to a toggle located right above the shutter button. As for the display, the ZenFone 4 Max features a 720p LCD display which is 5.5 inches large. The ZenFone's display gets pretty bright. The ZenFone 4 Max delivered a peak brightness of 461 nits, surpassing the 433-nit average. This may not be the best panel among competitors, but the ZenFone's screen has its advantages. Although the ZenFone 4 Max runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, it also employs Asus' ZenUI custom interface. Asus ZenFone 4 Max accepts two Nano-SIMs. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM, 3G, and 4G. Sensors on the phone include a Proximity sensor, an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor and gyroscope. The Zenfone Max series has always been the focus for those who prioritize battery life over other specifications. This version is no different. It has great specs for a mid-range device and provides a extraordinary battery life. Its main competitor is the Xiaomi Mi Max.

5.50":
It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

74.78%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
