The Asus TUF Dash F15 is a curious laptop that bodes well for common workloads but struggles in its primary ambition of delivering high-quality 1080p gaming at super-fast framerates.

On the downside, the SD card slot is not the only thing missing – you won’t get a Web camera either. This is a bummer in the times we live, and we can’t tell why ASUS hasn’t done their best to put one, or at least include one in a bundle. Also, the laptop gets pretty loud and hot on the outside, so we would advise an external keyboard, and a good set of headphones.

Not only is it unusable for video meetings (again, no webcam), but it probably won’t meet the bar for more heavy-duty tasks like video production or even a daily load of apps like the ones I use. And for gaming, this slim machine’s RTX 3070 isn’t as powerful as I would want for a long-term investment like this, especially because I’m not convinced it has the chops to brave the next wave of demanding games in a year or two.

Having used the TUF Dash F15 for the last weeks, it kind of grew on me. It proved to be a snappy and efficient daily multitasker, as well as a better gamer than I expected from a laptop built on a 4Core platform in 2021. Yes, the 4C Tiger Lake H35 processor is a tough sell, but it will make sense later in the year once this series is available with mid-tier Ampere graphics and at more affordable prices. And that's because this can truly game, with minor performance bottlenecks in the recent AAA games, but also because it's a well-balanced package, ticking the right boxes when it comes to the design, screens, inputs, connectivity, and thermals/noise levels. We'll get in-depth on all these aspects in the detailed review down below.

That said, the TUF Dash F15’s gaming performance is only status quo with last-generation gaming notebooks since its GPU is constrained to a low power level; from what we are seeing in the early going, not all RTX 3070 notebooks are created equal. At least it runs relatively cool and quiet. Value-wise, our $1,699 test model looks great in white, but it’s pricey next to the dark gray $1,449 Best Buy model that offers nearly identical features. The entry-level $1,099 Best Buy model looks like an even better value. If you do decide to go TUF, just remember to also budget for an external webcam.

The Asus TUF Dash F15 rolled into the new year with style. While all the other laptops decided to stick with a depressing grunge look with dreary grays and blacks, the TUF Dash F15 said, “Hey, let’s have an all-white party!” The TUF Dash F15 also has a sturdy design that matches its name — its military-tested chassis is, indeed, a “tough cookie” that can take a beating.

Asus used a new cooling system with a large heat spreader and five copper heat pipes, 83-blade fans and a self-cleaning module to keep as much dust out as possible. The laptop also has two-way AI noise cancellation for chat and DTS:X Ultra technology for 7.1-channel virtual surround for stereo headsets or speakers. What you won't find is a webcam -- an odd move given how much more time people are spending on video chats.
