Overall, this ain’t a bad laptop, not at all. In fact, if looking for a powerful and multi-valent 15.6 inch notebook these days, you’ll hardly find many better (if any?), especially for a similar price. Of course, it has its flaws, like the glossy and dull-looking exterior (still, that’s only based on my taste), or the rather odd designed keyboard and multimedia buttons, but all these are actually not that bad and there are also tons of strong points to compensate them.

Like the N75SF, the N55SF is an excellent laptop. It’s quiet, has solid hardware (Blu-ray player, USB 3.0, wide touchpad…), a matte screen and powerful processing and gaming capacity. Note however its rather original design and keyboard may put some users off.

The manufacturer decided for Sandy Bridge configuration using HM65 Express chipset in combination with great 2GHz Core 2630QM i7 processor or 2.9GHz in Turbo mode. It is a four-core processor with eight threads, providing good performance. The rest of the configuration makes 6GB of DDR3 memory (upgradeable to 8GB), SATA 640GB hard drive and a separate NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics card with 2GB of dedicated memory. Something like this is enough for some of the newer games as well as demanding multimedia. As power supply is concerned, a 6-cell 5200mAh battery provides approximately 3.5hrs of average use. There are also Wireless 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, so the whole configuration meets all current standards. Although there is no eSATA connection for example, an USB Charger + variant allow much faster recharging of peripherals via USB port. The package also comes with carrying case and a good optical mouse. Overall, this laptop deserves high marks and a warm recommendation to anyone looking for a powerful portable computer that will easily handle the demanding tasks.

Beatbox. Asus and a matt screen? Not always but ever more often is the motto. Asus also shows what is within the realms of possibility with an external subwoofer in sound matters. We show what else to the Asus N558F has to offer in this review.

The ASUS N55S is a good value and a good buy. It has a great full HD display, good looks, and decent build quality. The performance is excellent; this notebook is more than capable of playing the latest games. Most of the cons for this notebook can be summed up as "could have been better" rather than simply "bad". The keyboard for example is pleasant to type on but has some layout issues; the touchpad works well but the buttons are too loud; finally, the speakers sound good but aren't particularly impressive. A definite downside is the fact that the N55S does not have a backlit keyboard like some similarly-priced competing notebooks.

Yet these small issues hardly hold back the laptop’s many other strengths. Big, bulky 15.6” laptops are not what is considered cool these days, but they have many uses. This is a laptop that can basically do it all, with the exception of travel. If you need a single laptop that will serve as your only system, and portability is not a concern, the ASUS N55 deserves your consideration.

The Asus N55SF-A1 is one of the best sounding desktop replacements in the business, thanks to some fine audio tuning and speaker hardware from Bang & Olufsen ICEpower. As a laptop, it's ferociously fast and can ably take down your gaming opponents without losing a single frame. Like any premium quality laptop, the N55SF-A1 is pricey, which is why I would look into the Editors' Choice Dell XPS 15z (Microsoft) before making a buying decision.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.
Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M:
As the successor to the GeForce GT 445M, the GT 555M is available in many different versions based on different chips (GF106, GF116, GF108) with different graphics memory (128 Bit, 192 Bit, DDR3, GDDR5) and varying core speeds.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

2.7 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
2.8 kg:
84.17%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
