Reviews for the Asus Memo Pad HD 7
The better Nexus. For a year it was very hard to get a high-quality tablet for less than 200 Euros (~$265) without the Nexus 7 branding. Right at the launch of the second generation Nexus 7, Asus now offers its own tablet for 149 Euros (~$197).

As a budget tablet, the Memo Pad HD 7 perfectly fits the bill. It's fast enough, has all the features you'd expect and a particularly vibrant screen. It's keenly priced and generally offers an excellent user experience. It's also light enough to use comfortably for extended periods. There's no 3G or 4G version of the HD 7 available, so if accessing the internet on the move is a priority, the Asus FonePad is probably the most viable option, despite its lack of camera and slightly inferior performance and audio/visual quality.

Aside from that, however, the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 is a fine budget tablet. It has a superb screen, considering the price, performance is acceptable, and battery life is excellent. While it doesn’t impress like the more expensive Nexus 7 (2013) does, it is a fine tablet for a reasonable pricetag.

Even if the Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 was simply a rebranded, repackaged first-gen Google Nexus 7 offered at a reduced price, it would be a pretty solid deal. But while these two tablets have an unmistakable shared lineage, they cater to different audiences and the HD7 is a solid tablet in its own right. Get the new Nexus 7 if you want the latest feature and the best balance of performance to price. If price is your greatest concern, the MeMO Pad HD 7 is an excellent choice. It's also worth noting that the Kindle Fire HD represents a solid alternative here, especially for the Android-averse, and Amazon has been running a number of sales that drop it into HD 7 territory; likely ahead of a new model release before the holiday season.

Aside from that, however, the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 is a fine budget tablet. It has a superb screen, considering the price, performance is acceptable, and battery life is excellent. While it's still available at such a low price, the Nook HD remains our budget choice, but this comes a very close second. It will hit the shelves on 1 September.

In conclusion, considering its price the Memo Pad HD 7 is a pretty good tablet, featuring a quad-core processor, decent enough screen, great battery life and usable rear camera. Sadly though, Asus' timing is terrible. Because the Memo Pad is launching alongside the Nexus 7 its overall appeal is severely diminished. The Nexus 7, despite costing £200, features significantly better internal components, a more up-to-date Android version and is guaranteed to be one of the first devices to recieve any Android software update, thanks to its Google branding. For this reason, unless you're a die-hard fan of Asus custom applications, which we don't imagine many people are, or a really strapped for cash there's not a lot of point buying the Memo Pad over the Nexus 7.

With a surprisingly low $149 price tag, the ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 is a budget tablet that actually doesn't skimp. In effect, it offers an experience close to that of the original Nexus 7 at a lower price. It features a very nice 7-inch display, good battery life and even a high resolution back camera.

Make no mistake: ASUS isn't working miracles. The MeMo Pad HD 7's mixed performance, mediocre cameras and minor design issues remind us that the tablet is built to reach a certain price point. If you're looking for the best that ASUS has to offer this year, you'll still want to consider the Nexus 7 or wait for the Transformer Pad Infinity.

With a gorgeous screen, strong battery life, performance that's good enough for real gaming and a ton of helpful software, the ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 looks and feels like it should cost a lot more than its budget $149 price. While you can get the HiSense Sero 7 Pro, which has a faster processor and mini HDMI out, for the same price, ASUS's tablet has much longer battery life, weighs less and offers a slew of helpful custom software.

Model:
At the first glance, the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 is a lackluster device. The price is low and the design looks cheap enough to match. While fun options of color are available for the casing, the allure of its bulky looking design ends there. While the dimensions do not exceed those of other similar sized devices, somehow the angles and curves of the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 will tire out the hand much quicker. Asus have integrated a floating app function, which is similar to multi window capabilities found in some of the market leading tablets - but here it's a simplified iteration that will not allow as much functionality as one might expect. For those who really wish to multitask on a budget though, this would be the place to look.
Audio quality is far from impressive, but when external speakers are connected, the Audio Wizard feature will enable users to enhance their multimedia viewing/listening experience with great settings. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz quad-core Mediatek MT8125 CPU, a single-core PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU and 1GB of RAM. Simple tasks will run smoothly, but attempting too much multitasking will slow things down to a tar like consistency. Only the most casual games can be played with enjoyment. The display has a 1280x800 pixel resolution, this is where the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 really shines. Sharp, bright and rich, this screen blows even a few more expensive devices out of the water. All things considered, this is a decent enough machine for the budget conscious.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
