Asus G750JH-T4080H
The highly rated Republic of Gamers machines have a new entry in the form of the Asus G750JH-T4080H. Built to be able to power demanding games, with looks inspired by stealth planes, this 17 inch desktop replacement is ready for battle. The specs are impressive, this behemoth comes equipped with a Blu-Ray combo drive, a matte Full HD display, and fourth gen Intel Core i7-4700HQ that has four cores and clocks in at 2.4 GHz to 3.2 GHz on Turbo Boost. The high-end Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M GPU and 8 GB of RAM (upgradeable up to 32 GB), should easily deliver great performance. Even demanding games should run like a dream on this machine.
Extreme power saving measures will get approximately 4 hours of use from the battery, which is decent. Any demanding use will require the power cable. Speed bonuses will be available from the use of the SSD, which should mean a fast boot time, and fast load times for programs as well. Ports include 4 USB 3.0 ports, 1 Thunderbolt port, 1 VGA port, 1 HDMI port, 1 Kensington Lock, 3.5 mm microphone and audio jacks, and a 2 in 1 SD/MMC card reader. Most gamers should be more than satisfied with this machine overall, and for those just looking for a high powered device, this should do nicely as well.

It’s a fact that we haven’t recently seen a portable computer with more powerful performances, so ASUS deserves the Approved reward for top performances. While the performances are unquestionably high, the question remains why ASUS didn’t remove the Thunderbolt connector and made a considerable saving, since the base idea was presenting the most affordable gaming machine.

When a laptop emphasizes raw power, it sacrifices some refinement. The Asus G750JH is heavy, at 10 pounds sans peripherals, and the power brick weighs 2 to 3 pounds more. The system also lacks the lights and pizzazz that gaming machines like the Razer Blade got just right. But you can’t beat the graphics performance, and that’s what really matters to the gaming crowd.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.
Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M: High-end graphics card of the GeForce 700M series based on the Kepler architecture.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4700HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

17.00: This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
4.21 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
4.8 kg:
81.45%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
