Take the Asus G531, swap out the old hardware for 10th gen Comet Lake-H and GeForce RTX Super, and you'll have yourself the G532. This is one of the fastest ROG laptops you can get without settling for the over-sized G703 Chimera series.

The 2020 ROG Strix Scar 15 is mostly a hardware update of the 2019 model, with a few extra tweaks: a slightly cleaner interior and exterior design, as well as improved control over the RGB elements. Performance-wise, this remains a beast and one of the most powerful 15-inch notebooks out there, while it still runs hot and noisy on the Turbo profile, especially when sitting flat on a desk. Add in the rather small battery and the certain lacks in modern features, and this might not be as competitive this year as a performance-focused all-rounder, unless Asus compensates for its quirks with more aggressive pricing.

For RM7,999, the ROD Strix SCAR 15 does it all, and does them with aplomb – its impressive upgradability, coupled with the specs you’re getting future proofs you for at least another 3 years. Its gaming prowess is indisputable, while other features like its gorgeous 240Hz monitor, comfortable keyboard, and impressive audio make the SCAR 15 feel like top-range premium device. What also contributes to the classy feel of the laptop are its simple, yet sleek aesthetics which are accented by RGB lighting that, as much as some people detest, add extra flare to the rig.

The Asus Strix Scar 15 boasts enough power under the hood to rival desktop gaming PCs and a 1080p screen with a whopping 300Hz refresh rate, to start. If only that irksome trackpad worked better, this laptop might have gotten a higher score.

Based on the performance tests, we can see that the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 really comes out on top in most of the CPU and productivity tests. The vigourous sustained turbo speeds on this notebook really allows its CPU performance to shine, flexing its true potential as a heavyweight in the gaming notebook scene. Everything will look perfect, if the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 was equipped with a dual-channel memory configuration right out of the box. The gaming performance gap between a single channel and the dual channel memory configuration is just simply too much to ignore. We can see that just by having the system to run in dual channel memory mode, we can see more than 10% of improved performance.

Overall, these nitpicks emphasize Asus’ priority with the Scar. It’s not a laptop that’s meant to double as a travel companion or a work-from-home driver — don’t buy it to be your primary PC.

If you’re looking to game on a budget then this machine is NOT for you. At $2200 this is not a budget machine. This is a high-end machine that was built to deliver a high quality gaming experience for hours of full use on end. You might even consider it a desktop replacement. This could also be a “con” but only if this was the only gaming laptop that Asus and ROG sold. It isn’t. You have choices. So if you’re looking to be on the higher end of a PC gaming laptop landscape then $1800 – $2500 is where you’ll most likely be, I won’t complain about the price. Neither should you. Asus has other less expensive quality gaming laptop options. As far as this gaming machine goes, this is one of the best gaming laptops I’ve ever used. Period.
