Asus FX502VM-AS73
The Asus FX502VM-AS73 is a reasonably priced entry-level gaming laptop. It packs the latest 7th gen Intel processor, Windows 10, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics in a compact and lightweight design. With a profile measuring just 23.5 mm and tipping the scales at a lightweight 2.2 kg, the Asus FX502VM has an ultra-portable design that fits snugly in a messenger bag or backpack. The jet-black chassis of the FX502VM contrasts the silver and orange found on higher-end ROG models like the G75x or G701 series. Its build quality is solid including its relatively strong base and rigid hinges. The design concept of the notebook is generally the same as the one of the ASUS ROG GL502, which features a brushed aluminim lid and plastic all around. The aluminum plate, which is also a huge fingerprint magnet, bends under pressure, but not enough to produce a ripple effect on the LCD screen. The Asus FX502VM has a specially-designed chiclet keyboard with red-backlit scissor-switch keys that offer 1.6 mm of travel distance for tactile keystrokes. It also features highlighted WASD keys so users know where their hands need to be. The keys feel clicky and stable and typing on this keyboard won’t take much time adjusting to it. For display, the Asus FX502VM gives superior images with lifelike colors thanks to 100% sRGB color gamut. It utilizes a 15-inch panel with a super-fast wide-view panel to give wide 178° viewing angles so there's no color shift even when it is viewed from extreme positions. It features Full HD (1920×1080) resolution leading to a 0.18 x 0.18 mm pixel pitch and 142 ppi. Under the hood, there are a seventh-generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 discrete graphics card with 3 GB of DDR5 VRAM and full Microsoft DirectX 12 support, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, which is upgradable to 24 GB, a 128 GB Solid State Disk and a 1 TB Hard Disk Drive with 5400 RPM. Hence, games achieve good frame rates when they are played with high details. The laptop’s Hyper Cool Duo-Copper cooling system uses heat pipes and a dual fan system to cool the CPU and GPU independently. This design maximizes cooling efficiency to give the Asus FX502VM the stability required at any need. Although the laptop is quite thin, it offers all the needed connectivity options. Despite being thin and light, this laptop packs a decent amount of ports. It even features a LAN port, something that is not so common anymore. The Asus FX502VM-AS73 is meant to be an entry level gaming laptop but its specs suggest that this machine is made to fight in the mid-range category. After all, the GTX 1060 graphics card is definitely no entry level graphics card. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

No-frills gaming. The FX502VM offers nearly everything that comes with the GL502VM without significantly impacting performance. The SKU with the lowest-end TN display, however, should be avoided due to its very poor contrast.

The ASUS FX502 is a looker in terms of physique and form factor — it’s got a nice brushed metal look commonly seen on high-end gaming laptops and has great color accents. Its back-lit keyboard is also a plus for gaming even at night. Stereo speakers are effective and can be an alternative to wearing headphones.

All in all, the FX502VM is a powerful gaming notebook with impressive hardware for the asking price but as with every performance-centric laptop, you will have to make some serious sacrifices along the way. And this time, it’s not about build quality. In fact, the FX502VM is quite on par with the recently reviewed ASUS ROG GL502VS as they both share the same design concept and materials. Also, the FX502VM is surprisingly thin and relatively portable. Yes, sure we would have really appreciated a more premium selection of materials but let’s not get too picky.

The ASUS FX502 brings legit performance and gaming feature to a wider audience thanks to its more attractive price range. Smooth and high-detail 1080p performance are its hallmarks for gaming and its overall compact frame and build quality add to the mainstream appeal of this notebook and belies its decent gaming prowess.

The basic FX502VM is a nice machine for gaming for the price of $900-$950 (with discounts) in terms of performance/price ratio and in terms of thermal performance. The I5-6300HQ CPU is pretty good choice to go along with such a GPU for gaming. If you are after some heavy rendering, an I7 will probably be faster, but for gamers it’s not that important, plus it is considerably less hot. However it lacks some key features that might be important for some people. No Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1gen2, USB Type-C ports and also, only 1xM.2 SATA connection for M.2 storage (along 2.5″ bay). If these are dealbreakers for you. don’t get it. Secondly, the basic display is really rubbish – it might hurt your eyes if you’ll use it for too long too much. However, it is replaceable.

Searching for the Exceptional. We are taking the Asus FX553VD into our test regimen and evaluate if the FX553 lives up to Asus' motto "in search of incredible," or whether Asus has to continue to search. Compared to its sibling model which is equipped with a GTX 1060 at almost the same price, can the notebook collect enough positive arguments for a purchase?

Asus has tried to deliver a rather unique machine; with a business form factor but the inclusion of a GeForce GTX 1050 to give it a little gaming grunt. However, for the price we think you’re better off with something like an Alienware with external GPU accelerator, which will deliver a much more portable office machine, with real gaming performance when you get home.

Despite the lower price and the less powerful GTX 1050, our opinion of the notebook remains largely unaffected. The build quality feels somehow subpar or at least it doesn’t match the competition in most regards. The touchpad is also wobbly and unusable in some cases, although we suspect that the issues we had with it are limited to our unit. Still, the reviewed laptop is not a pre-production sample and we got it directly from the retailer, which means that there is bad quality control. In any case, we liked the keyboard quite a lot, which is more important for a gaming-oriented machine.

Bristol Ridge swan song. What should be one of the last Bristol Ridge gaming notebooks of 2017 before the push for mobile Ryzen shows us why AMD notebooks have been such a failure. An old plastic chassis, cheap TN panel, and weak CPU performance don't do the Polaris GPU any favors.

The ASUS TUF FX504G got almost everything right such as the design, a 15.6-inch FHD screen, 2.3kg weight, 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor and price. However, the main drawback is the measly 4GB RAM which makes it not as good for multitasking. This can easily be remedied by adding another 4GB RAM stick but you will have to pay a bit more than the normal price.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.
Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile: The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile: Mainstream graphics card based on Nvidia's Pascal architecture and successor to the GeForce GTX 960M. Is manufactured in a 14nm process at Samsung and the technical specifications are very similar to the desktop version.
AMD Radeon RX 460 (Laptop): On Polaris 11 based graphics card for laptops that should be only slightly slower than a desktop RX 460 graphics card.

Intel Kaby Lake:
i7-7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.
i5-7300HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture running at 2.5 - 3.5 GHz without Hyper Threading (which is supported by the faster i7 CPUs). The chip also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU clocked at 350 - 1000 MHz and is manufactured in a 14 nm process (improved compared to Skylake).
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Core i5:

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
71.37%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
