Asus Chromebook CX1101 comes with a price tag of Rs 19,990. The device can be an ideal choice for those who are looking for an affordable laptop and also want to use another operating system. Its ruggedised design, long battery backup and smooth performance act as an added advantage. The device can also be a pick for students who are busy taking online classes due to the pandemic.

The Asus Chromebook CX1 is an okay Chromebook designed for casual users. It offers up a 15.6-inch display with passable brightness, alongside a relatively tactile keyboard and a pretty average port selection. If you’re on a budget and after a large-screen Chromebook, then this is a decent option. Otherwise, its generic design and small trackpad aren’t going to be turning many heads anytime soon.

The CX1’s threadbare feature set, sluggish performance and disappointing display are no surprise when you consider the £191 exc VAT price. And, for that money, Asus has delivered a machine that’ll run basic computing tasks inside a tiny, portable chassis. The price is the CX1’s best attribute, though, and it’s undermined by its poor performance in most other key departments. It’s worth consideration if you need a bargain, but saving up some more cash will ensure you get a far better Chrome OS experience.

Chromebooks have found a niche during the pandemic, something Google and its partners always wanted – especially in a market like India. The Chromebook CX1101 comes with a strong build and battery life that lasts all day. The screen is okay, rather than outstanding and the design of the device is great. Chromebooks I feel are getting much better. They are reasonably priced, and the fact that they cater to users who want to use primarily web apps and simplistic computing tasks, Chromebooks work like a charm.

There is something to be said for a cheap Chromebook capable of getting some work or basic computing tasks done on the go, but the Asus Chromebook CX1500 struggles to clear even that low bar. The CX1500 has some appealing features. There's the 15.6-inch, full HD (1080p) IPS display, which is not something you typically see in a Chromebook at this price. Originally, its retail price in the US was $269 (about £200/AU$375) but that has fallen to just under $230 online when we checked recently. We've asked Asus for some clarity on the the exact pricing and availability in the UK and Australia, and will update this review when we hear back from the company.

The Asus Chromebook CX1400 isn't just for media consumption, it's handy for students and casual users. Priced at Rs 19,999 on Amazon, it offers more features for its cost. Yet, it has a few drawbacks. Its design is simple and sturdy, but the keyboard feels a bit shaky. The touchpad isn't as responsive as other laptops in its price range, so using a separate mouse might be better. It comes with useful ports and can turn into a tablet, which is pretty neat. The screen is good, and the speakers make sound better. However, when I opened many tabs, it slowed down, especially with online tools. It doesn't get too hot, but the webcam isn't great, and some apps might not work perfectly. The battery lasted around 9 hours, not the promised 11 hours, which is still pretty good.

As promised, here’s the answer to “Who should buy the Asus Chromebook”. If you’re a student, or a writer, or your work revolves around Chrome or Android apps, you can buy this machine. Asus’ pricing makes it a sweet deal for students, and the battery backup ensures you can use it for hours without worrying about it dying on you. For writers and other office users, anything you can do in Chrome or on your phone, you can do on this machine. Even some light photo and video editing tasks run smoothly as you can install apps for them. Moreover, the 360-degree hinge, touchscreen, and affordable pricing also mean you can have it as a personal or secondary machine. Now, heavy users like gamers, coders, and video editors are better off with a Windows or Apple machine. But at this price, there are no alternatives to the value that the Asus Chromebook CX1400 has to offer. You can buy a more expensive machine and get more value out of it, but in my testing, this Chromebook seems good enough for most users who primarily work on Chrome.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.
Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 500: Integrated low-end graphics adapter with DirectX 12 support, which can be found in some ULV SoCs from the Apollo Lake series.
Intel UHD Graphics 600: Integrated low-end graphics adapter with DirectX 12 support, which can be found in some ULV SoCs from the Gemini Lake series. Compared to the HD Graphics 500, the 600 offers improved display outputs. Compared to the faster UHD Graphics 605, the 600 offers less shaders at lower clock speeds.
Intel UHD Graphics (Jasper Lake 16 EU): Integrated graphics card in Intel Jasper Lake Celeron entry level models based on the Gen. 11 architecture. Offers 16 of the 32 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model ranging from 350 MHz base to 800 MHz boost. The Jasper Lake chips are produced in the 10nm process at Intel produced (similar to Ice Lake).

Intel Celeron:
Celeron N3350: An Apollo Lake family, dual-core, ultra-low-power processor (SoC) that saw the light of day in 2016. Its two cores run at 1.1 GHz to 2.4 GHz; these are not Hyper-Threading-enabled meaning there are no additional threads. This chip has a fairly competent integrated graphics solution, the Intel HD Graphics 500, and eats very little (~6 W). The Celeron N3350 is based on the Goldmont CPU microarchitecture that came to replace Silvermont (2013), bringing with it several welcome improvements. The CPU is Secure Boot-compatible; technically, it will have no issue running 64-bit Windows 11. The average N3350 in our database is just as fast as the venerable Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 is in multi-thread loads; the two cores of this Celeron trail behind a single core of any half-decent CPU such as the Intel Core i3-7130U.
Intel Gemini Lake:
Celeron N4020: A slow dual-core processor (SoC) of the Gemini Lake refresh product family. The Celeron runs at 1.1 GHz to 2.8 GHz and features a DirectX 12 capable UHD Graphics 600 integrated graphics adapter. An undeniably low-end product, this CPU is designed for use in laptops and mini-PCs of the most affordable kind.
Intel Jasper Lake:
Celeron N4500: Low power dual-core SoC from the Jasper Lake series for inexpensive notebooks. Runs with clocks between 1.1 - 2.8 GHz and integrates a DirectX 12 capable graphics adapter with 16 EUs and up 750 MHz. The CPU cores are smaller and slower than in the Core CPUs (e.g. Ice Lake) but manufactured on the same 10nm process.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

68%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
