This will withstand knocks and is close to being a rugged offering. For those who want more than the Google Docs provided, you can download Microsoft Office Online for free but this does require a Microsoft account to be used and this will defeat the everything available from a single log on.

The spec and its performance are certainly ample for the classroom or even university students at work, and we liked its drop- and spill-proof design. The display could do with being a little bigger for older students, admittedly, but for younger students it’s ideal.

ASUS C202 Chromebook — Australian Review
Source: Ausdroid English Archive.org version
There are a couple of trade offs with the C202, but I have to say that its durability and functionality are the key drivers here. When I consider how easily I could pull the C202 out, fire it up, get through some emails, write a story for Ausdroid, etc, I was quite impressed — this is a main factor for me, at least, when considering a new portable.

80% You won't find a better-built bargain

When you buy an inexpensive Chromebook, you shouldn’t expect superfast performance or amazing components. What sets the Asus C202S apart from other like-priced models is that Asus invested in a better build and even a better keyboard, all of which improve the user experience. As a result, this is one of the very few low-cost Chromebooks I’m willing to recommend.

The durability, affordable price, long battery life, and modular design of the Asus Chromebook C202 make it a good choice if you're looking for a budget computer for yourself or your kids and you don't need Windows. But its sluggish multiple-tab browsing can seriously frustrate anyone trying to work on important projects or documents in Web-based applications. For only $20 more, the Asus Chromebook Flip is a convertible chromebook with a touch screen and impressive multitasking capabilities. The Acer Chromebook R 11, though more expensive, remains our Editors' Choice for its convertible design, large IPS touch screen, and speedy performance.

The Asus C202's purpose-built design ensures it will only ever attract a niche market: parents of school-age children, cost-conscious school boards and chronically clumsy Chromebook lovers. If you're looking for a Chromebook – and you're not a member of the above niche(s) – there are plenty of zippier Chromebooks out there that are just as inexpensive as the C202. They may not have purpose-built rubber bumpers or a rugged chassis, but many do have warranties, and that's often all you'll need to keep them running.

Although Chromebooks are capable of some basic tasks without an Internet connection, they’re meant to be online at all times. The Chrome OS relies on Google’s many online services, including Gmail, Google Drive and Docs, and Google Calendar. A Chromebook is an obvious choice for someone who uses Google products regularly, wants an inexpensive laptop, and is willing to give up a certain amount of performance.

The Asus Chromebook C202 is a notebook worthy of the honor roll. It offers a durable shell, a very comfortable and spill-resistant keyboard, long battery life and decent (if somewhat mixed) performance. This laptop is a tad heavier than the competition, but it should still be in one piece when kids inevitably drop it on the floor.

ASUS Chromebook C223 review – uninspiring device with old hardware
Source: Laptop Media English
We would like to say that Chromebooks have come a long way. However, most of them didn’t. In fact, devices like the ASUS Chromebook C223 show the progress of the PC, MacBook, and smartphone industries. ASUS Chromebook C223’s display has a budget TN panel. Its viewing angles are uncomfortable, covers only half of the sRGB color space, and it uses PWM for brightness adjustment. Its only technical advantage is the quick pixel response time. Everything about this notebook speaks of its affordability. Its hardware, build quality, etc. Ultimately, the best thing about it is the keyboard, which is spill-resistant, and comfortable for typing. Also, you get a decent battery life out of the thing. On the other hand, you should keep in mind that the notebook comes with 4GB of RAM, and either 16 or 32GB of eMMC non-upgradable storage.

80% Review: This Asus Chromebook C223 costs Rs 17,999 and is aimed at students
Source: The Indian Express English
The Asus Chromebook C223 is an excellent budget notebook, with a reliable keyboard, long battery life, and compact and light form factor. But Asus has made a number of compromises to keep the price down of this Chromebook, and it’s kind of visible with the Intel Celeron processor and 32GB of onboard storage — Google provides 100 GB of free online Google One storage for one year. Strictly based on pricing, the Chromebook C223 is a better buy when compared to entry-level Windows notebooks. At Rs 17,999, this Chromebook is still the best entry-level notebook you could find in the market, and I think people will be pleasantly surprised to see all the basic tasks this machine can handle compared to their existing Windows laptop.

Asus ChromeBook C425 reviewed – what to expect, vs. ChromeBook Flip C434
Source: Ultrabook Review English Archive.org version
Now, you might think I’m exaggerating and drawing conclusions without even having touched the thing, and that’s a true. But my conclusions come from experience. Don’t forget I’ve been reviewing tens of Asus laptops over the last years, and don’t forget that my single knit with this ChromeBook is with the poor-quality panel, the kind I’ve experienced countless times in the past and the kind I cannot accept in a mid-tier ChromeBook launched in late-2019.

Asus Chromebook C425 Review
Source: Chrome Unboxed English Archive.org version
I’ve actually loved using this Chromebook despite its shortcomings, and there’s something to be said for that. A Chromebook doesn’t have to be perfect to be enjoyable to use, and the price you pay for that experience matters a whole lot in determining what you’ll feel each time you reach for it. If the prices are what they are right now and you are in the market for a device, this might be the one for you. However, if the C434 drops back to the $559 price for the 8GB model again and the C425 is back to $499, I’d have to point you back at the Flip C434 as the better option. Pricing is volatile and will stay that way. As a matter of fact, it will probably only get crazier, so make sure you keep yourself informed by staying in touch with everything happening here at Chrome Unboxed by signing up for email alerts below.

There’s nothing truly stellar about the C423N, but it’s a great all-round Chromebook at an affordable price. Spending £100 to £200 more will bag you something even better, but if you’re looking for a decent Chromebook for around £400, this one’s fairly hard to beat.

Nobody dreams of getting a budget Chromebook, but the C223 is nearly a very likeable device. It looks good, it’s light and compact, and the screen is fine for the money. The keyboard isn’t great, but it’s not absolutely awful. Yet it’s impossible to ignore the slow spec or the poor performance. You can’t expect high speeds for under £200, but the C223 is just too slow to recommend.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel HD Graphics 400 (Braswell): Integrated graphics card in the Intel Braswell series (2016 Celeron) processors. Based on the Broadwell architecture (Intel Gen8) supporting DirectX 11.2. Depending on the processor offers 12 shader cores (EU) and different clock speeds.

Intel HD Graphics 515: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on Core-m-CPUs of the Skylake generation (4,5 W TDP).

Intel HD Graphics 500: Integrated low-end graphics adapter with DirectX 12 support, which can be found in some ULV SoCs from the Apollo Lake series.

Intel Celeron:

N3060: SoC with an integrated dual core Atom processor clocked at 1.6 - 2.48 GHz, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a dual channel DDR3L-1600 memory controller.

Celeron N3350: An Apollo Lake family, dual-core, ultra-low-power processor (SoC) that saw the light of day in 2016. Its two cores run at 1.1 GHz to 2.4 GHz; these are not Hyper-Threading-enabled meaning there are no additional threads. This chip has a fairly competent integrated graphics solution, the Intel HD Graphics 500, and eats very little (~6 W). The Celeron N3350 is based on the Goldmont CPU microarchitecture that came to replace Silvermont (2013), bringing with it several welcome improvements. The CPU is Secure Boot-compatible; technically, it will have no issue running 64-bit Windows 11. The average N3350 in our database is just as fast as the venerable Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 is in multi-thread loads; the two cores of this Celeron trail behind a single core of any half-decent CPU such as the Intel Core i3-7130U.

Intel Core m3:

6Y30: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for tablets and 2-in-1 notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 515 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

Intel Amber Lake:

m3-8100Y: Extremely efficient ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) for tablets and fanless notebooks based on the Amber Lake architecture which is basically a Kaby Lake chip produced in the  improved 14nm+ process (no 14nm++) with higher clock speeds and 5 Watt TDP. Includes two CPU cores clocked at 1.1-3.4 GHz with Hyper Threading support as well as a graphics adapter.

Intel Kaby Lake:

Pentium 4415Y: Extremely efficient ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) for tablets and fanless notebooks based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Includes two CPU cores clocked at 1.6 GHz (fixed, no Turbo Boost) with Hyper Threading support as well as a graphics adapter and is manufactured in a 14 nm process.

Intel Pentium:

Pentium N4200: An Apollo Lake family, quad-core, ultra-low-power processor (SoC) that saw the light of day in 2016. Its four CPU cores run at 1.1 GHz to 2.5 GHz; these are not Hyper-Threading-enabled meaning there are no additional threads. This chip has a fairly competent integrated graphics solution, the Intel HD Graphics 505, and eats very little (~6 W). The Pentium N4200 is based on the Goldmont CPU microarchitecture that came to replace Silvermont (2013), bringing with it several welcome improvements. The CPU is Secure Boot-compatible; technically, it will have no issue running 64-bit Windows 11. The average N4200 in our database competes with the Core i5-3339Y, a low-power SoC launched in 2013, in multi-thread performance.

14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

73.94%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
