Apple's competitor to the new Amazon Echo Show 8 was previously rumored to be launching last March, but since Apple's AI Siri upgrade was not ready, the launch was postponed to next year.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, this smart home hub will indeed launch next spring, followed by two indoor security cameras in the fall, while a more advanced model with a display that can constantly align itself toward the user thanks to a motor is scheduled to follow in 2027. Surprisingly, Apple's smart display will not be manufactured in China or India, but in Vietnam, where production will be handled by electric car manufacturer BYD. This could be an attempt to circumvent US tariffs, as products imported from Vietnam into the US are currently "only" subject to tariffs of 20%.
Apple is said to be planning two variants of this hub. One is said to look like a HomePod Mini, the other like a tablet designed for wall mounting. Both will feature a nearly square 7-inch display combined with integrated speakers, microphones and a FaceTime camera. The camera will allow the device to recognize who is currently using it and adjust the user interface to the user's preferences. According to information from Bloomberg, Apple is targeting a price of $350.
