Apple iPhone 19e to finally receive long overdue upgrade

The Apple iPhone 17e has only just come onto the market, but with a 60 Hz OLED display, a single rear camera and a tiny 4,005 mAh battery, the premium mid-range smartphone looks a little out of date. According to the latest information from ZDNet Korea Apple is only planning to improve with the iPhone 19e.
The iPhone 19e is expected to be launched in spring 2028. The entry-level iPhone will then finally receive a 120 Hz LTPO OLED panel. As Apple likes to use components from older models in the e-series in order to reduce costs, it is conceivable that the panel from the iPhone 17 will be used. This 6.3-inch OLED panel achieves a resolution of 2,622 x 1,206 pixels, a frame rate of 120 Hz and a full-surface brightness of 1,600 nits as well as a peak HDR brightness of 3,000 nits.
As the frame rate can be variably adjusted to the screen content, this panel consumes less power than the LTPS OLED panel of the iPhone 17e, which means that the iPhone 19e could achieve a longer battery life. Another significant advantage is that this panel supports an always-on display, where the frame rate is reduced to just 1 Hz, so this does not significantly affect battery life. More expensive models such as the iPhone Air ($815 on Amazon), on the other hand, are set to receive an upgrade to an LTPO+ panel in 2028, which should be even more energy-efficient and brighter.
