Supposedly, Apple has resolved its earlier production problems, with the company hoping to introduce its first solid-state button on next year's iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Instant Digital, a prominent Weibo leaker, claims that the second-generation Action Button will sit flush against the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max's frame, which are expected to retain the titanium build of this year's models.
However, no other button changes are anticipated for either model. Thus, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are currently thought to utilise physical power and volume buttons. As always, MacRumors claims that 'Apple's plans could change', although there is no evidence to suggest that this will be the case yet.
Instead, it appears more likely that the success of a solid-state Action Button will pave the way for changes in subsequent Pro models. Theoretically, the hardware change will allow the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to offer greater Action Button customisation options than the short and long presses that current models provide. Incidentally, a new Action Button may be joined by Apple's first moulded glass lenses, which we have covered separately.
