Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max to come with pill-shaped punch holes and invisible Face ID modules
Leaker @dylandkt has outlined several details about the state of Face ID on the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Last month, The Elec alleged that Apple would drop Face ID this year, five years after introducing it with the iPhone X. However, @dylandkt claims otherwise. According to AppleTrack, @dylandkt has a 77.5% accuracy from 40 Apple-related rumours so far.
Reportedly, Apple has managed to install Face ID hardware beneath a display. Until now, Apple has housed the technology behind a notch, the size of which it shrunk last year with the iPhone 13 series. This new technology will only be coming to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max though, not the iPhone 14. @dylandkt believes that placing Face ID sensors beneath the display does not impact their functionality, either.
Additionally, @dylandkt asserts that the iPhone 14 Pro series will have pill-shaped punch holes in their displays. It is unclear quite how this would look, but other manufacturers have opted for pill-shaped punch holes before, such as Huawei. Apple is expected to drop the 'mini' from this year's iPhone series, leaving it with 6.1-inch to 6.7-inch display sizes.
