Apple may well have new 24-inch iMac and iMac Pro all-in-one machines in development, but neither are expected to arrive until the end of 2023, at the earliest. Mark Gurman has also shared processor details about the pair, along with some information about forthcoming external monitors, including a Pro Display XDR successor.

Mark Gurman has shared updates about the state of Apple's all-in-one (AIO) desktops, as well as new external monitors. Currently, Apple only sells the 24-inch iMac, an Apple M1-based AIO that is now 18 months old. With no adoption of M1 Pro, M1 Max or M2 chipsets since its introduction in April 2021, the 24-inch iMac is now one of the least powerful Macs that Apple sells, despite its large footprint.

According to Gurman, a new iMac will not arrive until the end of 2023, at the earliest. As such, a second-generation 24-inch iMac will bypass the M2 series, which Apple is expected to expand to the M2 Pro, M2 Max and M2 Ultra in early 2023. Instead, the 24-inch iMac will jump to Apple M3, a chipset rumoured to come in 8-core and 10-core CPU options.

Additionally, Gurman asserts that Apple remains committed to the return of the iMac Pro, which it allegedly prototyped with the Apple M1 Max. However, Apple has delayed the iMac Pro internally because of production costs and complexities. The company could also release a successor to the Pro Display XDR, along with another unnamed monitor. While Gurman expects both monitors to utilise Apple silicon in one form or another, both may launch after the long-awaited Mac Pro.
