According to a report, Apple's plan to release MacBook Pros with mini-LED displays has been pushed back until Q4 2021 or Q1 2022. Apparently, supply issues are to blame, but a rise in COVID infections in Taiwan may come into play, too.

Hot on the heels of yesterday's report about new MacBook Pros comes another, this time from DigiTimes. To recap, Mark Gurman believes that Apple will announce the MacBook Pro 14 and a new MacBook Pro 16 this summer, both with new Apple Silicon SoCs. A third MacBook Pro is due later this year or in early 2022 too, albeit an entry-level 13-inch model.

According to DigiTimes, mini-LED supply issues will delay the mass production of MacBook Pros with the new display type. Apparently, an increase in COVID infections in Taiwan may hamper mini-LED production, too. DigiTimes asserts that the rise in infections could postpone mass production until Q4 2021 or Q1 2022.

Ultimately, the timelines presented by Gurman and DigiTimes do not align. If Apple is on track to announce the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 this summer, we doubt that it would wait for another six to nine months before selling them. Instead, we suspect that these MacBook Pros will arrive with conventional IPS displays, before Apple pivots to mini-LED displays next year.
