Twin Turbo. While most manufacturers give their gaming notebooks only one dedicated graphics unit, Gigabyte has presented its brand-new 17-inch Aorus X9 with two Nvidia GPUs. We will find out whether it makes sense to use a GeForce GTX 1070 in SLI mode or if this feature has more disadvantages than advantages.

Coffee Lake on speed. Gigabyte's Aorus X9 DT is a 17-inch high-end notebook with top-of-the-line hardware and an overclockable processor that should run every game smoothly on its FHD display. Let us compare the desktop replacement to other GTX 1080 laptops - which one will prevail?

In summary, with the recent crop of Max-Q notebooks, you're paying for the design, portability, and performance. But with a laptop that doubles as a desktop replacement, you're really paying for pure performance. A desktop would deliver better performance for less money, but if you fit the profile for needing a desktop replacement notebook, this is precisely why notebooks like the Aorus X9 DT exist.

The Aorus X9 DT is not a bad product. It's a powerhouse that's actually reasonably slim. It's just that it is for gamers on the fringes who want the best performance that a laptop has to offer and have the cash to spare.

I’m quite impressed with the Aorus X9 DT. It’s well-built thanks to its aluminium body, and for a laptop with a Core i9 and GTX 1080, it’s actually quite portable. It’s by no means an Ultrabook, but considering the full-fat GTX 1080 chip used inside, I do think it’s impressively slim.

The Aorus X9 fires on all performance cylinders and has a solid keyboard, but very hot temperatures and a disappointing display hold it back.

Aorus:
Aorus is a brand of Gigabyte Technology, a Taiwanese company that specializes in manufacturing computer hardware and accessories. Aorus was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan. The logo is a falcon head, as the name Aorus is derived from the ancient Egyptian falcon god Horus. The Aorus brand focuses on developing high-end gaming products such as gaming laptops, gaming monitors, gaming mice, keyboards and other accessories. Aorus products are designed to enhance the gaming experience. The brand also has a strong presence in the e-sports community and sponsors many professional e-sports teams and events.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 SLI (Laptop): Two high-end GTX 1070 in SLI combination. The 3D performance depends on the driver support for the game and may range from 0 - 90% faster than a single GTX 1070.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Mobile: Pascal based laptop graphics card using GDDR5 graphics memory. Should offer a similar performance to the deskto GTX 1080. However, there is also a more power efficient "Max-Q" version that performs worse than the normal GTX1080 and is used in thin and light laptops.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile: Pascal based high-end mobile graphics card based on a cut down GP104 (like the GTX 1080) and GDDR5 graphics memory. Successor to the GTX 980M with a 10 Watts higher TDP. Similar to the desktop GTX 1070 performance wise, but with more shaders and lower clock speeds.

A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
