Samsung seems to have forgotten about the Galaxy S Mini lineup in recent years, as the last S Mini smartphone was released in 2014 with the Galaxy S5 series. Rumors about possible Galaxy S7 and S8 Mini models never came to fruition unfortunately, but there’s still hope for new Mini devices. According to U.S.-based investment information firm Valuewalk, Samsung is very likely to release a Galaxy S9 Mini version along with the S9 and S9+ flagships next year.
The rumored Galaxy S9 Mini would come with a sub-5-inch screen, but would still pack most of the powerful features that come with the flagship models, including the signature curved edges. This could be part of Samsung’s strategy to retarget that high-end 4-inch smartphone niche market that faded away when Apple discontinued the iPhone SE model. However, a foreign news report points out that the name of the device could change before the launch date, maybe released as part of the Galaxy A series.
While experts were previously expecting the new Galaxy S9 series to be launched in March 2018, latest rumors inform that the launch could actually happen in February next year. In any case, the return of a Mini model to the Galaxy S roster would most likely boost the sales and profits for Samsung, if it gets a competitive price.
