There's a full-screen Samsung compact phone on the cards, and it may just be the S9 Mini

There's a fullscreen compact device coming from Samsung in the near future, with the chance, albeit a slim one, that it will be the S9 Mini. The last Samsung flagship to have a mini version was the S5, so we're keen on seeing how this one goes.

There was word of Samsung producing an S8 Mini earlier in the year but that turned out to be either an elaborate prank by the South Korean company, or an unfeasible endeavour due to a number of reasons. A new device has surfaced, however, and there's a chance we may be looking at the follow-up to that fabled device.

Details of the phone were revealed on Weibo by famous Samsung leakster "Ice Universe". According to the post, the phone sports a <5-inch full-screen display, with minimum bezels. The details are anything but conclusive but it narrows options down to the, admittedly unrealistic, Galaxy S9 Mini, or the A3 (2018).

The A3 (2018) is the likeliest option, as Samsung tends to bring last-gen features to the A-series phones, so the full-screen display would fit right in. The other A-series devices, the A5 (2018) and A7 (2018) are expected to sport 5.5-inch and 5.7-inch displays respectively, so they don't match the profile of this device. The A3 (2017), however, featured a 4.7-inch display, which is similar to what has been touted for this unnamed compact phone.

While a compact full-screen device is cause for joy no matter what, users will be quite disappointed if it turns out to be the A3 (2018), as the A-series phones are mid-rangers. Flagship compact phones are as rare as unicorns these days, with Sony being the only OEM with a dedicated line for them. A potential S9 Mini, however unlikely, would provide another option for lovers of small, powerful devices.
