Amazon’s Kindle Fire is the most popular Android gaming tablet in the US

A recent report shows that Kindle Fire is the dominant Android gaming tablet in the US and it even nears the popularity of Apple's iPad.

Portable gaming gets more and more popular these days and Apple dominates the US market thanks to the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, all of them able to handle gaming on the go really well. On the other hand, Android devices are catching up in terms of market share thanks to the increasing popularity of Android-powered handsets while iOS remains the leader when it comes to revenue, grossing three times more than Google Play.

All the above and more has been revealed in the third quarter 2013 edition of the ongoing App Annie & IDC Portable Gaming Report, which also managed to show that Amazon's Kindle Fire beats all the other Android tablets with Google Play. The surprising facts about the Kindle Fire's performance during the given period of time are these:

  • Amazon's tablet was more popular than the DS and 3DS combined
  • Kindle Fire clearly won the battle with Android tablets using Google Play with almost twice as many adopters
  • This slate was also more popular than the iPhone or the iPod Touch

At last it should also be mentioned that while iOS enjoys a comfortable lead in terms of revenue as mentioned above, this App Annie & IDC Portable Gaming Report for the third quarter does not include any Amazon App Store-related revenue information, as this is a well guarded secret of the American international electronic commerce company.
