Late last night Amazon sent out a tweet announcing a new event in Seattle on the 18th of this month. CEO Jeff Bezos will be on hand to unveil a new device and Amazon is taking requests from the public to attend.
All the invite shows is a black device with Amazon branding on the back, but according to Bloomberg it will indeed be the company's long-awaited smartphone. The tweet was also accompanied by a teaser video showing people's reactions to the device, which seems to follow the user's head movements and react accordingly. The video doesn't show the actual product, but based on the context it could feature the 3D display that has been previously rumored.
Amazon is also employing a unique strategy in drawing visitors to Seattle, as they're allowing anybody to request an invite. Developers, journalists and Amazon customers are all being given the opportunity to attend by simply filling out a form, though we'll have all the info here in a couple weeks for those who can't make it.
