All-new Motorola Razr 2020 5G “Odyssey” renders leak: updated Snapdragon 765 chipset and 48MP camera to compete with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Tipster @evleaks just leaked some new renders of Motorola’s upcoming 5G-enabled foldable smartphone, the Motorola Razr 5G. From the looks of things, the Razr 5G (AKA the Razr Odyssey) is set to be an iterative update, retaining the original 2019 Motorola Razr’s design, while featuring enhanced internals.
The new Motorola Razr 5G will sport a midrange Snapdragon 765G chipset, enabling access to fast 5G networks. It is also expected to feature an enhanced 48MP rear camera - visible at the top left of the render image.
Unlike Huawei, Motorola is apparently keen to use foldable technology to further reduce the footprint of small phones. The Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X both offer users a full-size tablet experience that folds up into a regular smartphone profile. Samsung does offer a small-form foldable, though, the Galaxy Z Flip.
We expect the Motorola Razr 5G to hit markets in the months to come. If Motorola decides to stick to its high-end US$1500 price-point, though, the Razr 5G might have a tough time. The iPhone 12 series is expected to arrive in September and a new Galaxy Fold 2 is also on the way.
In that kind of a market, a Snapdragon 765 device is a hard sell, even if it is a foldable. Keep in mind that the midrange OnePlus Nord, a €399 mid ranger features the Snapdragon 765G, an enhanced version of that same chip. In any case, more details should emerge soon, including Razr 5G pricing. We’ll keep you posted.
