MWC 2018 | Alcatel announces the release of its new 3-series devices
Alcatel may be a little-known name in most parts of the word, but the French brand has massive ties to the communications industry, with its line of Mobile Wi-Fi devices seeing widespread use across the globe. The company also produces smartphones and, while they may not be as popular as other industry mainstays, the company does have a significant market share in the UK. The company has announced the launches of three new devices in it 3-series product line—one that offers devices with price tags under €200.
The first of those is the Alcatel 3V. The device features a 6-inch 18:9 FHD+ display. It's powered by an unnamed quad-core SoC with four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.45 GHz. That's particularly disappointing, and we're leery of how such an underwhelming SoC is expected to power a high-resolution display without dips in performance. The 3V features 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, with support for a 128 GB MicroSD card. On the camera side of the fence, it sports a dual rear camera setup (12 MP +2 MP) with EIS, and a 5 MP selfie shooter. A 3000 mAh battery and Android Oreo complete the package. There's also NFC present on the device, which is a welcome surprise.
The Alcatel 3 is the second device in the series. It sports a 5.5-inch 18:9 HD+ display, and is powered by a "quad-core A5" SoC. Like the 3V, it features 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, with support for a 128 GB MicroSD. It sports a 13 MP + 5 MP dual rear camera setup with EIS, a 5 MP selfie camera, a 3000 mAh battery, and NFC. It will also run on Android Oreo out of the box.
The Alcatel 3X completes the triumvirate. It features a 5.7-inch 18:9 display, and is powered by the same SoC seen on the regular 3 model. It, in fact, boasts of a spec sheet similar to the aforementioned 3 variant, with the same camera setup and battery. Memory is where it offers a tangible upgrade, though, as it features 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.
