Another pair of Alcatel smartphones debuted today: the A7 and A7 XL. The two sub-€300 handsets are meant for budget-conscious buyers who are looking for a device with good photo-taking capabilities. Expect them to go on sale late autumn.

In addition to the new Idol 5 handsets, Alcatel has also introduced another pair of smartphones. The A7 and A7 XL are equipped with modest hardware but include a few standout features, such as a huge screen and dual cameras on the A7 XL, a high-resolution camera on the A7, and large batteries and fingerprint sensors on both devices.

The Alcatel A7 is the smaller of the two phones. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p display. The rest of the A7's specs include:

  • Mediatek MT6750T octa-core processor
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • 32 GB of internal memory, expandable up to 128 GB via microSD
  • 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and dual LED flash
  • 8-megapixel selfie camera with LED flash
  • Non-removable 4,000 mAh battery
  • Android Nougat 7.0

Specs on the A7 XL are largely similar with a few exceptions, the most notable being the screen size and dual-camera setup:

  • 6-inch 1080p IPS display
  • Mediatek MT6750S octa-core processor
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • 32 GB of internal memory, plus 32 GB more via microSD
  • 12-megapixel rear primary camera with phase detection autofocus and dual LED flash
  • 2-megapixel rear secondary camera (for creating a software blur effect)
  • 5-megapixel selfie camera with LED flash
  • Non-removable 4,000 mAh battery
  • Android Nougat 7.1

Like the Idol 5 and Idol 5S that were also announced today, the A7 and A7 XL are headed only to Europe. The A7 will be available in Metal Black for €229.99 (US$273), while the A7 XL will also come in an additional color, Metal Gold, and cost €279.99 (US$332). Both handsets will hit retailers sometime in November.
