Reviews for the Alcatel 1

While lacking the high profile of the major players in the manufacture of mobile devices, the Alcatel brand of handsets have been around for several years now. Originally a trademark of Nokia, the Alcatel brand is now released under license by TCL Communication. Recently I have had the opportunity to check out the Alcatel 1 smartphone which is available, SIM-free, from Carphone Wharehouse priced at £59.99.

You could say this phone has a certain 'je ne sais quoi’, because we don't know what would make anyone buy it.

The Alcatel 1 is a well-built phone, available for an eye-catching sub-£100 price. However, the quality of its display and the level of its performance simply don’t make the grade.

Alcatel:
The former French manufacturer of telecommunication equipment merged to Alcatel-Lucent in 2006. Several business segments were sold to other companies, so the Alcatel brand is now used by various companies. The Chinese company TCL uses the brand names "Alcatel One Touch" and "Alcatel Idol" for smartphones and tablets.
The market share in the smartphone + tablet segment is very small, but there are quite some recent reviews in different languages. The ratings are average (as of 2016).
51.8%: Such a bad rating is rare. There exist hardly any notebooks, which are rated worse.
