Airgradient's popular indoor air quality sensors are the first devices of their kind to be officially certified as "Works with Home Assistant". These open-source devices do not require an internet connection and enable local automation with air purifiers, air conditioners, or humidifiers and dehumidifiers.

Home Assistant is free software designed as a central control system for smart homes, according to Wikipedia. In fact, more and more devices are becoming compatible with the software, enabling centralized control of various smart actuators.

For a device to work with Home Assistant, the "Works with Home Assistant" certification is not strictly mandatory; incompatible models can be integrated into the ecosystem through indirect means. However, the certification certifies that the device has undergone extensive testing to verify its out-of-the-box compatibility with Home Assistant.

The indoor and outdoor air sensors from Airgradient are the first devices of their kind to officially receive this certification. They can be seamlessly integrated into smart home software, enabling the creation of automated systems in conjunction with other smart devices, such as air purifiers, air conditioners, or humidifiers and dehumidifiers. This is intended to enable a healthier indoor climate, as these devices are automatically activated when the air quality drops below a predefined level.

Devices measure numerous kinds of air pollutants

Depending on the model, the sensor monitors particulate matter (PM2.5), CO2 concentration, volatile organic compounds (TVOC), nitrogen oxides (NOX), temperature and humidity. The color LEDs and small display integrated into Airgradient One's Indoor Air Quality Monitor are designed to facilitate quick air quality checks. This encourages timely ventilation, for example, and can help improve the home environment when CO2 concentrations are too high or reduce mold growth when humidity is high. Furthermore, the system is open source, allowing for subsequent expansion at any time. In addition to integration with Home Assistant, it can also connect to Homey.

The indoor sensor is available for $230. Those who feel confident assembling the device themselves can choose the self-assembly kit for around $138. Both these prices do not include the shipping charge of $25. Since this is shipped from Thailand, longer delivery times are to be expected.
