Affordable Western Digital Black SN770 PCIe4 NVMe SSD series now shipping starting at $60 up to $270 USD

Digital storage manufacturer Western Digital has just made available its Black SN770 series to succeed the last generation SN750 series of NVMe SSDs. The newer series utilizes the PCIe4 x4 interface for maximum read and write rates of 5150 MB/s and 4850 MB/s, respectively, compared to "only" ~3500 MB/s on the fastest PCIe3 x4 drives.

Faster PCIe4 x4 drives like the Acer Predator GM7000 or ADATA Gammix S70 are available with transfer rates approaching 7000+ MB/s each to be noticeably faster than what the new SN770 series can offer. However, such drives are also more expensive at $150 and $145 USD for the 1 TB ADATA and 1 TB Acer, respectively, compared to just $130 for the 1 TB WD SN770.

Current SN770 SKUs range from 250 GB up to 2 TB with the following prices:

• 250 GB: $60 USD
• 500 GB: $80 USD
• 1 TB: $130 USD
• 2 TB: $270 USD

It's worth noting that although the WD SN770 drives are PCIe4 compatible, they are not officially designed for the Playstation 5. The manufacturer does not guarantee compatibility with the Sony console which recommends faster transfer rates than what the SN770 series can provide.
