The MSI Thin GF63 gaming laptop with a 15.6-inch IPS display is currently back down to its lowest price ever. While you won't find any high-end features on the notebook, the Thin GF63 is a solid gaming machine at the discounted price thanks to the RTX 4050 and the Core i5-13420H.

Announced way back at CES 2023, the MSI Thin GF63 is an entry-level 15-inch gaming laptop that trades some creature comforts for affordability. As such, it can be a good buy for folks who don’t mind sacrificing options like a high-end display and a metal chassis for good performance at a low price.

Best Buy has now made an RTX 4050-powered configuration of the MSI Thin GF63 even cheaper, bringing the notebook down to its historic low once again. The laptop is now available for only $649.99. Since the laptop usually hovers between $899.99 and $699.99, this is a good deal, especially when we look at the internals.

MSI Thin GF63 specifications

The MSI Thin GF63 on sale is powered by a 13th-gen Core i5-13420H CPU, an RTX 4050 laptop GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. Around the front, there is a 15.6-inch FHD IPS panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate. Sadly, the panel covers only 45% NTSC gamut and only reaches about 250 nits of brightness. This is a little disappointing but can be overlooked considering the entry-level price.

Looking at the ports, the laptop packs one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C with DisplayPort, three Type-A ports, one HDMI out, and an RJ45 jack. Wireless connections are handled by Wi-Fi 6E and BT 5.2. Other noteworthy details include a single-zone backlit keyboard, an HD webcam, a 52.4 Wh battery, and a manageable weight of 1.9 kg (4.1 lbs).

MSI Thin GF63 performance

While the MSI Thin GF63 won’t win any performance awards, the internals on offer should be enough to play a majority of AAA titles at reasonable settings at FHD. eSport titles will, therefore, reach high-refresh-rate territory, as shown by our testing of the RTX 4050 laptop GPU.

Per our database, the RTX 4050 laptop card plays AAA games like Until Dawn (2024), God of War Ragnarok, and Space Marine 2 above 60 FPS with medium/high settings. eSports games such as The Finals can saturate the 144 Hz refresh rate of the display at FHD.

CPU-wise, the Core i5-13420H with its 8 cores and 12 threads will handle everyday productivity tasks and even some demanding loads without a hitch. Combined with the expandable RAM and a storage slot, the MSI Thin GF63 will remain capable for a number of years to come.
