Having recently told you about a smaller Chromebook, here is something larger that may suit. In fact for those only used to Windows this will not have a lot of differences for you to get used to and if you do not require third party Apps designed for Windows then it may do everything that you require. Also with Windows 7 support ending in January 2020 another reason to change.

A large display might seem a big draw, but unfortunately the panel itself is dull and lifeless unless you have it turned up all the way. The keyboard is the main drawback though, regularly failing to register taps of the space bar and quickly becoming a huge frustration. The CB315 is cheap and that's the main reason to buy it.

The Chromebook 315's touch screen is handy, as are its twin USB ports on both sides, and it's priced right. But it doesn't climb from the entry-level ranks to threaten its Editors' Choice sibling—its tepid performance and plastic design won't thrill you, and its display will leave you longing for more color and candlepower. Bargain hunters will be happy, but Chromebook power users will want to set their sights higher.

The Acer Chromebook 315 is an excellent laptop for the price, capable of completing basic tasks without a hitch. The CPU performance, battery life and keyboard quality are far behind the standard of more expensive laptops, but that's not really an issue if you're sticking to the likes of casual web browsing, video streaming and basic apps.

However, most people won’t want to do any of that. They just want a laptop for simpler tasks such as web surfing, listening to music, watching videos, and all the daily things we now need to do online, from writing emails to making Zoom calls. For such tasks, this Chromebook does everything you need to, on a beautiful big screen, and at a very lovely price indeed.

The Acer Chromebook 315 (CB315-4HT) is an affordable laptop for basic work and study. It has a neutral design and a nice IPS touchscreen display with accurate colour reproduction but a rather narrow colour gamut. The laptop has a good set of connectors and a full-size keyboard with an additional number pad. Among the complaints about the hardware, given the laptop's class, we can note the mediocre battery life. This is surprising, given the energy-efficient processor and lightweight OS. And the lack of keyboard backlighting, which is available in more affordable models. If we look at the laptop from the point of view of the operating system, Chrome OS is suitable only for working with documents, video calls, and other simple tasks. More serious software is only available on Windows or macOS. And, given the price, there are competitors on Windows that have more memory, more powerful processors, fingerprint scanners, and a backlit keyboard.

The Acer Chromebook 315 is an affordable and competent machine, but it’s so readily beaten by competitors like the cheaper Lenovo 5i Chromebook, or discounted Windows machines, that we see little reason to recommend it over what's already in our buying guide to the best Chromebooks. While the Chromebook 315 isn't a complete letdown in everyday use, it will likely start to show its age much sooner than rivals. Instead, look to the Lenovo 5i Chromebook for a Chrome laptop that nails the basics and then some for less than $500—or even Acer's own 500 series of Chromebooks for a bit more cash.
