Fit primarily for work! The new Aspire 5 is based on Intel's 8th-gen Core series. On top of that, the 17-incher offers a dedicated graphics card. Unfortunately, it will only manage to impress casual gamers. In this review, you will learn how well the new CPU generation stacks up against the old guard.

The best in class multimedia 17.3-inch laptop. Period. It may have some unpolished edges here and there – we refer to the slightly flexible interior, lid and the wobbly touchpad – but it delivers exceptional multimedia experience and pretty powerful hardware for the asking price.

If you don’t mind missing out on those extras, those, this is an excellent workhorse for a reasonable price. It won’t break the bank, it’s fast in applications, and it’s solid elsewhere.

It may be unashamedly basic in design and build quality, but this is a good laptop with excellent performance for the price.

The Acer Aspire 5 shines with its fast, extensive drives; crisp, clear display; and elegant design, but falters when it comes to audio and price.

On a more expensive ultraportable laptop, a chassis with mediocre build quality, a middling touchpad, and uninspired speakers would be dealbreakers. On the Aspire 5, however, the combination of a pleasing, 17.3-inch 1080p display, decent travel weight, and a palatable price mean that the laptop’s main drawbacks are mere compromises to just note in advance instead of reasons not to buy. Whether these drawbacks carry the weight depends on your priorities. On a performance basis, you can do better but you’ll settle with a bulky machine that will weigh down your backpack. In the end, the most important considerations are how much you are willing to spend and what you plan to use this laptop for. If all you’re looking for is a big-screen machine for day-to-day tasks and don’t have so much money on the table, the Acer Aspire 5 A517-52-59SV is a proper contender for your cash.

If you want a thin, and sleek 17-inch laptop that is fast, this is it. It is the best option for the 17-inch range that has the new updated Intel CPU, a good amount of RAM, and new Graphics, all in a compact notebook. And the ability to easily upgrade the memory and the storage is a big advantage. In conclusion for this Acer aspire 5 review, this machine is a nice affordable notebook that can perform like a $1k laptop in terms of specs. Sure, you can find many other laptops with similar prices, but they won’t come with a Fingerprint reader and fun backlit keyboard like this one. This Acer Aspire 5 A517-52-59SV is definitely a steal.

The latest Acer Aspire 5 laptop isn’t a game-changer, but it gets the job done well (with reason). Its design is all too familiar and its Core i5 processor, though new in the market, won’t blow you away with its performance. But the Acer Aspire 5 price is a boon for most budget buyers looking for a bigger screen, and it serves up a solid design and has enough power to get the job done. Anything from writing up a report, video chatting with family or Netflix binge, it won’t disappoint at all. However, if you’re looking for more power, longer battery life and a better screen, the LG Gram 17Z90P is a great choice, with a WQXGA (2560×1600) screen, over 17 hours battery life, an intel evo 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 CPU, 16GB RAM, 2TB SSD and includes Thunderbolt 4. You’ll pay slightly more for the sleek design and added power, but it’s worth every dollar you spend. That said, if all you need is a laptop that can handle remote or in-person learning and work, the Acer Aspire 5 A517-52-59SV is a good choice.

Acer: The company was founded under the name of Multitech in Taiwan in 1976 and renamed to Acer or Acer Group in 1987. There are dozens of Acer laptop reviews per month, the ratings are average (as of 2016). Gateway, which has an own laptop line-up, has also belonged to the Acer Group since 2007.
