Fit primarily for work! The new Aspire 5 is based on Intel's 8th-gen Core series. On top of that, the 17-incher offers a dedicated graphics card. Unfortunately, it will only manage to impress casual gamers. In this review, you will learn how well the new CPU generation stacks up against the old guard.

The best in class multimedia 17.3-inch laptop. Period. It may have some unpolished edges here and there – we refer to the slightly flexible interior, lid and the wobbly touchpad – but it delivers exceptional multimedia experience and pretty powerful hardware for the asking price.

Whether these drawbacks carry the weight depends on your priorities. On a performance basis, you can do better but you’ll settle with a bulky machine that will weigh down your backpack. In the end, the most important considerations are how much you are willing to spend and what you plan to use this laptop for. If all you’re looking for is a big-screen machine for day-to-day tasks and don’t have so much money on the table, the Acer Aspire 5 A517-52-59SV is a proper contender for your cash.

On a more expensive ultraportable laptop, a chassis with mediocre build quality, a middling touchpad, and uninspired speakers would be dealbreakers. On the Aspire 5, however, the combination of a pleasing, 17.3-inch 1080p display, decent travel weight, and a palatable price mean that the laptop’s main drawbacks are mere compromises to just note in advance instead of reasons not to buy. Whether these drawbacks carry the weight depends on your priorities. On a performance basis, you can do better but you’ll settle with a bulky machine that will weigh down your backpack. If you want a thin, and sleek 17-inch laptop that is fast, this is it. It is the best option for the 17-inch range that has the new updated Intel CPU, a good amount of RAM, and new Graphics, all in a compact notebook. And the ability to easily upgrade the memory and the storage is a big advantage. In conclusion for this Acer aspire 5 review, this machine is a nice affordable notebook that can perform like a $1k laptop in terms of specs. Sure, you can find many other laptops with similar prices, but they won’t come with a Fingerprint reader and fun backlit keyboard like this one. This Acer Aspire 5 A517-52-59SV is definitely a steal.

The latest Acer Aspire 5 laptop isn’t a game-changer, but it gets the job done well (with reason). Its design is all too familiar and its Core i5 processor, though new in the market, won’t blow you away with its performance. But the Acer Aspire 5 price is a boon for most budget buyers looking for a bigger screen, and it serves up a solid design and has enough power to get the job done. Anything from writing up a report, video chatting with family or Netflix binge, it won’t disappoint at all. However, if you’re looking for more power, longer battery life and a better screen, the LG Gram 17Z90P is a great choice, with a WQXGA (2560×1600) screen, over 17 hours battery life, an intel evo 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 CPU, 16GB RAM, 2TB SSD and includes Thunderbolt 4. You’ll pay slightly more for the sleek design and added power, but it’s worth every dollar you spend. That said, if all you need is a laptop that can handle remote or in-person learning and work, the Acer Aspire 5 A517-52-59SV is a good choice.

Acer Aspire 5 (A517-52G) review – an everyday device that offers balance
Source: Laptop Media English
A 17-inch laptop of this class is never about performance, or being on the cutting edge of technology in every aspect. Instead, the keyword here is “compromise”, and there are quite a few of them. The first one, of course, is the display. It’s clear that the Acer Aspire 5 (A517-52G)’s panel comes with a budget-conscious IPS panel. Yes, it has comfortable viewing angles, a good contrast ratio, and more importantly – its backlight doesn’t flicker. Unfortunately, it covers only half of the colors found on the Web, which results in a bit of a dull-looking image. Now, this wouldn’t have been an issue, if Lenovo’s Ideapad 3 (17″, 2021) didn’t exist. It had a screen, that was able to show vibrant and accurate colors. The Aspire 5 can’t do that. Nevertheless, we are happy to see that Acer stayed away from the TN panels of the past. Thankfully, the upgrade options look quite good with one SODIMM slot for memory expansion, an M.2 PCIe x4 slot for SSDs, and a 2.5-inch SATA drive bay for storage. What is even better, is that Acer provides everything needed to attach a SATA drive inside the package, which is great.

Acer Aspire 5 (A517-53G) review – the cooling has gotten a LOT better
Source: Laptop Media English
Last year, the Aspire 5 (A517-52G) was one of the good 17-inch laptops on the market. However, this year, Acer raised the bar with the inclusion of Thunderbolt 4, two RAM SODIMM slots, and providing one more M.2 PCIe x4 slot for storage. One big change was also the loss of 400 grams from the overall weight of the product. This made the machine stop the scales at 2.20 kilos – a point, previously reserved for 15-inch devices. With that said, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 (17″, 2022) is even lighter at 2.04 kg. What makes the Aspire 5 superior is the presence of a dedicated GPU. Our configuration is equipped with the MX550, which was no match for the brand-new cooling solution. Acer added one more heat pipe, and one more fan, which helps the device completely obliterate its predecessor when it comes to cooling capacity. Acer Aspire 5 (A517-53G)’s 17-inch IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. Its backlight doesn’t use PWM, which is great. On the other hand, it covers only half of the colors found on the Web (52% of sRGB). On the bright side, we are left really happy with the keyboard and the touchpad. By the way, the latter features a fingerprint reader, which is fast, accurate, and doesn’t obstruct the work of the touchpad. Generally, the port selection is good, with the exception of the lack of an SD card reader. And just like that, Acer made one of the best 17-inchers for the money.
