MagyarASUS ROG Ally launch date confirmed as availability, pricing and more features teased
Yesterday, we rounded up details and specifications for the ROG Ally, ASUS' first gaming handheld. However, AMD's announcement of the Ryzen Z1 series APUs has prompted ASUS to tease even more information about the ROG Ally, including its release date. While most new details centre on the gaming handheld's display, ASUS has also now hinted at pricing.
Specifically, ASUS confirmed to Engadget China that the ROG Ally's 7-inch display provides 100% sRGB colour space coverage and 99% light transmittance via a DXC coating atop its Gorilla Glass Victus top layer. Meanwhile, ASUS has revealed that the display supports AMD FreeSync with a variable refresh rate (VRR), the first for a gaming handheld panel. ASUS has not outlined the panel's minimum refresh rate yet, but it will peak at 120 Hz. As The Phawx explains, the inclusion of AMD FreeSync implies that the ROG Ally has an eDP and native landscape panel, which remains rare among gaming handhelds; apparently, GPD Win 4 included.
Moreover, ASUS rates the ROG Ally for up to 8 hours of battery life, albeit with the following caveat:
Windows operating system, display module with 150 nits of brightness, lighting off, and other application settings.
Wi-Fi 6E connectivity will be present too, but there will be no option to add LTE connectivity like on the GPD Win 4. ASUS will formally announce the ROG Ally on May 11 at 15:00 UTC. Currently, the company remains coy on pricing, although it has confirmed to PCGamer that it 'will be below $1,000. 200% it will be below $1,000' with three months of Xbox Game Pass thrown in. At launch, the ROG Ally will be available exclusively from Best Buy in the US and Currys in the UK.
