AMD Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X debut on Geekbench with near-identical multi-core performance
The Zen 5-powered Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 made quite a splash by punching well above its weight class in CPU performance. Its desktop counterparts, the entry-level Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X weren't nearly as impressive, but that is to be expected from middle-of-the-stack SKUs. Now, the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X have shown up on Geekbench to give us a rough idea of the full power of Zen 5.
Starting with the Ryzen 9 9950X, it scores 3,359 and 20,550 in Geekbench's 6.3. The multi-core score is more or less identical to that of the last-gen Ryzen 9 7950X (19,813 average), while the single-core score performance is about 12% faster (2,975) average. The test system was running 32 GB of DDR5 6,000 RAM, so memory is not an issue here, although you could get better scores with a 6,400 MT/s kit because Geekbench is very memory-dependent.
Next up, the Ryzen 9 9900X scores more or less the same, with single and multi-core scores of 3,356 and 20,100, respectively, on an identical test rig with 12 CPU cores. This tells us the Ryzen 9 9950X has some scope for improvement with subsequent BIOS updates. All in all, the 12% enhanced single-core performance is nothing to scoff at.
As always, it's best to wait for more benchmark scores to emerge as you can't draw conclusions based on one benchmark. It won't be long before we know for sure, as the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X are slated to hit shelves later this month.
