First benchmarks of AMD's Ryzen 8000 series of laptop processors, codenamed Hawk Point, are starting to show up online. This time, we get to see an interesting SKU, the Ryzen 9 8940H. Its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7940H, was a China-only SKU with a TDP of 54 Watts. Specs-wise, it is practically identical to the global Ryzen 9 7940HS, with the only difference being the TDP. Now, the Ryzen 9 8940H has finally made its Geekbench debut.
The AMD Ryzen 9 8940H makes an appearance on the benchmarking platform alongside an Asus TUF Gaming A15 (US$1,524 on Amazon) variant with 32 GB of DDR5 5600 RAM. Whether or not AMD will launch it globally remains to be seen. Its Geekbench 6.2 single-core tests vary a lot across three runs, with the lowest being 2,467 and the highest 2,638. Similarly, its multi-core score ranges between 4,284 and 13,104. One can safely disregard the former, as it is undoubtedly erroneous.
Performance-wise, the Ryzen 9 8940H trades blows with the Ryzen 9 7940HS. However, it is obvious that the silicon in question isn't at its peak potential, and it will fare much better in subsequent runs. The Ryzen 9 8940H is an 8-core, 16-thread processor with a base clock of 4.0 GHz and a boost clock of 5.3 GHz. Lastly, it is paired with a Radeon 780M iGPU.
