AAEON, which is an associate company of Asus, is known for its computer hardware and embedded boards. The manufacturer has just added a new product to its range, with the UP Xtreme SBC that comes with a powerful Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 Whiskey Lake processor. The board can also feature 4 GB to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM (dual-channel) and comes in a 120 mm x 120 mm form factor.
Apart from featuring high-end chips (in the past, UP products have used Atom SoCs), unsurprisingly the AAEON UP Xtreme is practically bristling with connectivity options. There is 4x USB 3.0, 2x Gb/s RJ45 Ethernet, HDMI + DisplayPort, SIM card slot, SATA connection, M.2 connections (2230 & 2242/2280 sizes), and much more on offer.
With the Whiskey Lake SoCs (15 W TDP) in place, the AAEON UP Xtreme SBC can utilize the fast turbo clocks of the Intel chips (all single-core rates): i3-8145U – 3.9 GHz, i5-8265U – 3.9 GHz, i7-8565U – 4.6 GHz. With this kind of available performance, AAEON will be hoping the UP Xtreme single-board computer can satisfy demanding developers.
No price has been given for the UP Xtreme board yet, but it’s probably going to be pricey because of the presence of the 8th Gen Intel mobile processors. A price of US$350 to US$400 for the lowest-spec configuration, with the i3-8145U SoC and 4 GB RAM, has been suggested.
