SNØ: Ultimate Freeriding channels the thrill of snowboarding with a minimalist aesthetic and an arcade-style scoring system that encourages you to link high-risk maneuvers to earn big points. The game is optimized for Steam Deck, and the developers promise up to 60 fps at high settings on the handheld.
The game has simple pick-up and play controls that are easy to learn but tough to master, making for a rewarding experience when you pull off high-scoring combos. You can control your descent using the directional keys or WASD on the keyboard, and you have dedicated buttons to glide, carve, and do tricks. There is full gamepad and keyboard support.
While that may sound simplistic, it's far from easy. Part of the challenge is to figure out lines on a procedurally generated mountain terrain. The hazards and roadblocks continuously change, making you adjust on the fly, leading to nerve-racking moments where you skirt the rim of danger for high scores.
The game offers three modes of play - Score Attack, Infinite Run, and Zen. Zen removes the scoring system and lets you explore the serene environments at your own pace. There is an online leaderboard that lets you visit top-scoring mountains using seed numbers and third-person, drone, and first-person camera views for greater control or visibility.
