Early footage of a recomp of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake has been posted on X/Twitter, showing the new Nintendo Switch 2 game running on an Ultrawide monitor.

Just days after the official release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Nintendo Switch 2, the game is not only in playable form via emulation on PC, but dedicated static recompilation attempts have already appeared. The most promising one so far shows the game running on an Ultrawide monitor with only minor graphical glitches, though with quite severe performance requirements.

Specifically, the game is shown running at 60 FPS...but while also consuming 18.6 GB of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090's VRAM capacity. Ouch!

Despite the OP's claims that this means, among other things, that "hardware exclusivity is over" and that this news means "it's over for Nintendo," I don't think most people interested in playing the Ocarina of Time Remake are going to be interested in paying $2000+ for their own hardware when Nintendo can already hook you up with a Nintendo Switch 2 and a legal copy for under $600.

While I'm at it, I do feel the need to editorialize a bit here, as a true fan of emulation and game preservation efforts.

Takes like these are not only dreadfully misinformed (major Nintendo games have been fully playable on PC at launch since roughly Super Mario Galaxy 2, which came out in May of 2010,) but they display a childish and petty malice. I heartily endorse emulation, but shameless piracy of modern games only harms the creators behind the media you supposedly love.

It obviously doesn't harm them enough to prevent Nintendo consoles and exclusives from doing gangbusters, but it's an embarrassing attitude that delegitimizes the efforts of genuine game preservationists. For the love of God, buy your games if you want to see more like them.
