One of the iconic luxury American SUVs - the Cadillac Escalade - has been remade for the electric vehicle era, keeping its premium vibe. The Escalade EV will be pricey but offers a huge battery pack.

General Motors announced that it will release the first electric Cadillac Escalade model next summer but won't add the IQ suffix to its iconic name like it does with the Lyriq or the Celestiq. GM's most premium electric SUV will simply be called Cadillac Escalade IQ and will be priced from US$130,000.

That's quite a bit of a premium over the regular V8 Escalade which starts from about US$85,000, but then again the top V-series that the Escalade IQ seems to aspire to as far as performance and interior go, is US$150,000.

The Escalade IQ is driven by electric motors with 750HP output and will ship with a giant 200+ kWh battery that will also offer fast charging to add 100 miles of range in a 10-minute session. Cadillac equipped the IQ with the biggest ever wheels on an Escalade - 35" tires on 24" rims - and added rear-wheel steering for better handling and shorter turning radius.

The whole of the electric Escalade's body has been restyled from scratch for а more aggressive look, including the iconic vertical lighting. Inside, the typical level of high-end luxury SUV interior with handcrafted materials and executive second row has been augmented by a spacious 55-inch pillar-to-pillar display similar to the Mercedes EQS Hyperscreen.

The electric Escalade will be made at the Factory ZERO Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center that GM retooled for US$2.2 billion to tune it up for its EV transition.
