The ultra luxurious Escalade IQ can now be ordered in the US, becoming not only the electric SUV with the longest range as Cadillac touts it, but also the EV with the largest battery.
Previously, that title was held by a version of the RAM 1500 REV with a 229 kWh battery and 500-mile EPA range that was announced for 2025 release.
Stellantis, however, has sent a letter to suppliers informing them that it is cancelling the biggest and baddest REV model, and they should continue work only on parts shared with its 350-mile sibling that will carry a 168 kWh battery.
This makes the RAM 1500 REV the second long-range pickup that got canned after Tesla cancelled the 500-mile Cybertruck as unneeded and decided to provide the extra miles with a $16,000 range extender that will be released later this year.
The electric SUV with the longest range comes with the largest battery
Coincidentally, the cancellation of the 500-mile RAM 1500 makes the Cadillac Escalade IQ that was just launched in the US the electric passenger vehicle with the largest battery.
The all-electric Escalade carries a giant 217 kWh pack that provides an EPA range of 460 miles that is awfully close to the coveted 500-mile SUV that neither Tesla nor Stellantis released.
The new Escalade IQ starts from $130,000 and, as the battery size suggests, weighs heavy at 9,300 lbs without passengers, just shy of the weight needing a commercial driving license category.
The premium 7-seater from Cadillac is bigger than the Cybertruck and comes with fast 350 kW charging, 5-second 0-60 mph acceleration and up to 750 HP output.
As usual, the Escalade comes with all the luxury design appointments and comforts one would expect from Cadillac, such as a 55-inch pillar-to-pillar main display and a 40-speaker audio system.
For better maneuverability of the giant Escalade, Cadillac has equipped it with rear wheel steering just as Tesla did with the Cybertruck, and says one can add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes on a suitable charger.
The Lucid Gravity SUV comes just shy of the Escalade IQ range with its 450 miles, which, however, are achieved with a much smaller battery pack that is about the size of the Cybertruck's 123 kWh battery.
