Our first in-house benchmarks of the Core i7-11375H are in and they are just marginally better than the 25 W Core i7-1185G7. OEMs will have to exploit its Turbo Boost potential as much as possible or else performance won't be all that much better than a Tiger Lake-U CPU.

The new Intel Core i7-11375H was designed to fill the performance gap between the low-power Tiger Lake-U series and high-power Comet Lake-H series. In reality, however, the processor is more like an overclocked Core i7-1185G7 for better or worse.

Based on our findings with a retail Vaio Z test sample, raw multi-thread performance is about 3 to 19 percent faster than the average Core i7-1185G7 laptop depending on the Turbo Boost sustainability of the Core U-series system. The performance gap is a bit wider at up to 28 percent when compared to the average Core i7-1165G7 laptop. Meanwhile, single-thread performance is only about 6 to 7 percent faster.

Of course, existing owners of 11th gen Core ix laptops are unlikely to upgrade to the Core i7-11375H and so the marginal uptick in performance isn't an issue. Intel wants to court owners of older Whiskey Lake-U laptops to upgrade instead which is where the performance boost is significantly greater. CPU and GPU power are about 2x and 4x faster, respectively, for significantly higher performance-per-watt and performance-per-gram without needing to rely on a GeForce MX GPU.

Multi-thread performance is still slightly behind the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U while the integrated Iris Xe G7 GPU is only slightly faster than the Radeon RX Vega 8 in most titles. The Core i7-11375H is certainly a strong Ultrabook CPU option from Intel, but last year's mobile AMD Zen 2 CPUs can still put up a good fight.
