NIO has debuted the 2024 ES6 compact electric SUV in China with new battery options, AWD, and a lower price. The entry level version of the new ES6 delivers a claimed 490 km (~305 miles) of range, while higher spec options see the range expectations jump significantly. NIO also promised that future revisions to the ES6 will feature its new 150-kWh semi-solid-state battery pack.

NIO recently launched the 2024 ES6 compact electric SUV that features a number of significant updates over its predecessor. The ES6 has thus far been one of NIO's biggest successes, with the previous version accounting for anywhere between 45% and 64% of the brand's annual sales since it first launched in 2019.

The new ES6 is based on the brand's NT 2.0 platform, affording it the company's updated automated driving hardware based on four Nvidia DRIVE Orion chips and lowering the price of the vehicle, starting at RMB 368,000 (~US$51,985) instead of the outgoing version's RMB 386,000 (~US$54,530) starting price.

The NIO ES6 comes in two battery flavours at launch — 75 kWh and 100 kWh — that deliver 490 km (~305 miles) and 625 km (~388 miles) of range respectively. NIO's chairman and founder, William Li, also mentioned that the ES6 would be getting a mid-cycle update with the 150 kWh semi-solid-state battery pack in July 2023. The 150 kWh battery will up the claimed range to a whopping 930 km (~578 miles).

NIO's ES6 comes standard with rear-biased AWD, with a 150-kW front motor and a 210-kW rear motor, that delivers a total power output of 360 kW and sends the vehicle to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. The ES6 is also available as part of NIO's battery as a service program, which lowers the price to RMB 298,000 (~US$42,096) aside from the monthly battery swap subscription payment. Outright buying the ES6 will set you back RMB 368,000 (~US$51,985) for the 75 kWh battery trim, while the 100 kWh version comes in at RMB 426,000 (~US$60,180).
