iPhone 17 tipped to launch with same internals as iPhone 16
The iPhone 17 is currently believed to launch as a slightly larger device than its 16 predecessor, with what might be improved rear cameras and the upgrade to a true ProMotion screen denied to its forebears for generations.
Its upgraded appearance might be deceiving, however, as the iPhone is now also said to be powered by the Apple A18 SoC - just like the pre-existing 16 and 16 Plus.
The new prediction comes courtesy of GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who also reportedly hints that the 17 will have the same amount of RAM as the 16 (8GB, while the 17 Pro and Pro Max are backed for an upgrade in the same area).
The configuration as a whole would be a stark contrast to that of 2024's vanilla iPhone, which was revealed to have an updated design to match its new internals (an upgrade to Wi-Fi 7 included) and bigger battery - then again, it had the exact same cameras and display as the 15.
It will be interesting to see if its successor can replicate its rise to the top of the best-selling smartphone chart freshly released by Counterpoint Research, based on global data on the first 3 months of the year in 2025.
The vanilla 16 (currently available for ~$700 in Renewed Premium condition on Amazon) has reportedly beaten other leading handsets - even the 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra from Samsung - to take this title, something not seen since the 13 took the same #1 spot in 2023.
