Apple iPhone 17 tipped to launch with dual 48 MP cameras and 120 Hz display

The iPhone 17 series likely remains months off from being announced. Currently, Apple is expected to leave about a seven month gap between the iPhone 16e (curr. $584 - renewed on Amazon) and its next flagships. Nonetheless, Digital Chat Station believes that they have obtained key details about the regular iPhone 17 ahead of time.

According to the leaker, Apple still intends to offer its base iPhone with a larger display than the 6.1-inch panel found in the current iPhone 16. Apparently, this year's standard iPhone will grow to around 6.27-inches compared to 6.3-inches for the iPhone 16 Pro. This new panel should finally bring a 120 Hz refresh rate to Apple's non-Pro iPhones, too.

As a result, the iPhone 17 will be marginally taller than its predecessor. Potentially, the iPhone 17 could be as tall as the iPhone 16 Pro as well, despite featuring a smaller display. Although exact dimensions remain unknown for now, Apple's non-Pro iPhones tend to have thicker display bezels than their Pro counterparts. Thus, this 0.03-inch gap may be bridged by bezel thickness.

Digital Chat Station adds that the iPhone 17 will also adopt a second 48 MP rear-facing camera. While they have not mentioned the intended use of this sensor, we imagine this will underpin an ultra-wide-angle camera rather than a telephoto equivalent. At any rate, the same leaker suggests Apple will include upgraded telephoto cameras in this year's Pro models, too.
